Is this the very first emulation of an arcade game?
#293157 - 08/03/12 12:12 AM Attachment: Digital Eclipse Defender Mac 1994.jpg 296 KB (0 downloads)

Digital Eclipse Defender & Joust, Robotron for Macintosh
Box Art 1994.

Would this be an accurate description, commercial product or not.

Using original arcade roms to emulate the game.
Not a port or best interpretation of the original game.

Slight update.
January 1996 MacWorld Expo.
New product at the table of Digital Eclipse

It's unclear to what degree things are actually emulated in those. The console versions are known to perform a laundry list of cheats to skip emulating various elements of the PCB and gain speed.

Is it worth checking the program?
I could probably find an open box version.
I'm so tempted to open the wrap on this fine box design.
I know their is just a floppy disc inside.

Here is the Joust Version.

I don't know that it's worth opening. Personally I love those boxes and I would never take them out of the shrinkwrap

You should be able to find disk images of those games on the internet somewhere. Why open the box? You paid for the game, so...

Rule of thumb is you always buy 2 if possible, so you can have the fun of opening up one of them

It is the first known publicly available arcade emulator.
Computers and game consoles had been emulated before that, why nobody released an arcade game emulator before that is anyones guess.
