Triple buffer and MAME
#292858 - 07/30/12 06:02 PM

Sorry if this has been answered already, but I am finding conflicting answers to this question.Does triple buffer do anything in Windows MAME?
Reason im asking is because it seems that triplebuffer only applies to openGL programs, according to some sites, and others say triplebuffer works for both directx and openGL.

For me anyway it seems when I enable triple buffer older games like Donkey Kong & Gradius have a audio crackle in them.
Thanks

Triple buffer AFAIK makes the game look smoother, but I can't remember exactly, been traveling today so tired.

I thought (and have read) that triple buffer should be used with vsync. But I keep reading that triplebuffer only applies to openGL programs\games

triple buffer is explained in docs/windows.txt
It seems to have no effect in windowed mode.

http://easyemu.mameworld.info/mameguide/mameguide-options.html

On my machine i have it set to 1
Also, I have the following settings and all seems fine in windowed mode.

# WINDOWS VIDEO OPTIONS
#
video d3d
numscreens 1
window 1
maximize 1
keepaspect 1
prescale 1
waitvsync 1
syncrefresh 1
menu 0
