Is there a new chdman for 146u3?
#291980 - 07/17/12 04:17 AM

Topic. Google fails me, even though it's now been days since 146u3 was released. The chdman from 146u2 generated 300GB of CHDs that ClrMamePro and MAME both did not like (bad SHA1, almost universally, and I tested three copies of the 146u2 chdman from three separate sources including a forum post from supposedly a dev) so I went back to my v4's. I'm keen to test whether this apparent bug was fixed. Would be nice to have a 100% clean CMP scan for the first time ever.

Rather than explain it again to yet someone else, I'll attempt to lay it out as simple as possible for you...

It is advised to keep everything in your collection v4 unless MAME puts out a new or redumped CHD (anything since 0.145) as all those new CHD's will come across as v5. For now, that's as simple as it needs to be.

CMP has the option to shut off version checking in the latest versions, so I'd suggest you do that, follow the advise above, and CMP will come up 'clean' for you.

A 100% clean set at this point will be a mix of V4 and V5 CHDs. There is no way around it and they are marked BAD_DUMP for a reason.

Here is a list of what should stay at V4 because they change SHA1 when converted. You can manually move out these directories, convert what's left and then move them back in.

My impression is that, at this time, it's impossible to update the chds based just on Cmpro (even the last one that Roman posted in the forum that can filter baddumps). Cmpro will give you an incomplete list of chds to update and at least four of these you should not update. I don't know where exactly the problem is, but I see two possibilities: the chds aren't well documented as bad or good dumps in Mame source or Cmpro's implementation for listing baddumps isn't yet well refined.

I made a batch with your (B2K24) list (it isn't completely tested since I'm half way in the update processes), that puts all these chds in a folder named 0gdroms (the name doesn't make much sense but I don't feel like changing):

This is my understanding, don't take just my word in this, listen to user more experienced than me.

however there are about 4 chds which aren't marked as baddump in mame yet which do change their internal sha1 after converting to v5. all the other changing ones are marked already.

haven't checked myself yet but users mailed in the following for 146u2:

Punch Mania: Hokuto No Ken (GQ918 VER. JAB ALT CD)
918jab02.chd

Hyper Bishi Bashi Champ - 2 Player (GX908 1999/08/24 VER. JAA)
908a02.chd

Jingi Storm - The Arcade (GDL-0037)
gdl-0037.chd

JoJo no Kimyouna Bouken: Miraie no Isan (Japan 990913)
cap-jjm-0.chd

According to them, they do create a different sha1 when converted to v5....as I said, I did not double check it yet...

ok, I've checked the 4 mentioned chds myself now and can confirm that they create different sha1s after updating to v5 (with .146u3 chdman). The disk tags don't contain a baddump flag in u3. For 908a02, it's marked as baddump for hypbbc2pk but not for the parent hypbbc2p.

If I'm not mistaken, also:
Battle Gear 2 (v2.04J) - batlgr2/bg2_204j.chd
has the same problem.
Could you please check it?

This one seems fine after V5 conversion.

Unpossible, that's a harddisk image.

Please don't. I've had half of emulation PM me about those 4 sets. If it gets flagged any more ways I'll leave them that way in u4 just to fuck with people.
