I'm pretty sure the same principal wouldn't apply to anything you'd plug an earbud into, but it reminds me of working with old guitar amps with questionable grounds. You never touch two guitars plugged into different amps at the same time, because you can get a nasty jolt right from the strings. Learned that the hard way passing a guitar that was plugged into my uncle's old Ampeg combo.

It's happened to me before too with an earbud plugged into my phone. I was talking and started hearing some static on the line....followed by a couple of quick, static like shocks that were more surprising than anything and then ZAP a huge jolt right in the ear...ended up reflexively tossing the phone away from me.
Hurt like hell

I have one ear bud in when I am not driving. I get zapped in the winter when I slide plastic crates a cross the floors of stores. I think that it is a static thing but I don't know. Feels real good in the ear!
