WATER. Some people need it. Some people have too much of it. If global warming pans out, we're gonna have a metric ass-ton of it. You know what cools down soil and promotes rain...water. water. Muther farking water. You know what creates a bunch of jobs that can be filled by nearly anyone with an 8th grade education? Moving water. Digging reservoirs, tunnels, channels, rivers, lakes. Building storage towers, pumping stations. Installing Hydro electric power plants, solar powered pumping stations, the whole nine. Guided raft tours down the new awesome rivers. Rental shacks for kayacks. Trout farms and bait shops.Go crazy.
Lets build a system to get water from point A to point B. As needed. Like the power grid (oh...wait, more job ideas), only with water. Lets be awesome. Lets employ people and prepare for the inevitable desert that awaits us in 30% of this country. Lets do stuff. Fuck the bailouts. Buy every mother farker a shovel.
By the way, you know what grows with water? Trees. You know what is good for the planet? Trees. Plant some trees to. We can pay someone to do that too. Hell, pay someone to start planting tree seeds now. ASAP. While we work on all the little engineering details.
Oh, and shipping companies...You know what hauls more shit that a semi and uses less fuel? a farking cross-country barge...that's what. Like the mighty mississippi....but sideways.

Don't forget: trees GROW! We need muther farking lumbjackasses to cut down dem trees for wood. And what do you do with wood? (the tree kinds, not the man kinds) Build! Pissant builders to build those barges... & cruiseliners, rafts, & oars. Lots of oars for the peon oarsman to row them behemoth liners all around the planet. Show them how good we got it here. And to keep those poor hungry huddled bastards out we'll build a big wood fence, with towers and bows & arrows! Only let in who we want to work for us...

I've got a mule and 'er name is Sal, 5730 miles on the Italie Canal. Feed 'er tamales, and she's a pal, 15 years on the Italie Canal. We've hauled some biatches in our day, filled with batches and froods and hey.

Hmm. No mention of Aqua/Hydroponics? Grow fishies for food, all the while providing fertilizer for your crops, plants, garden, so-on & so-forth. 
If I ever had the opportunity to do something like this I'd be VERY tempted to undertake such an effort. ...Although, it might be too much for one man to handle alone. I dunno.

Eventually, winter will come around. All that water will freeze turning into ICE! We would also need to hire people experienced in keeping those water lanes of commerce open. We would need ice barges and people experienced in breaking through the ice to plow on through, especially in Minnesota.
