Luckily the debacle has been closed. Above two links that may interest you. The AVG scan detected a false positive... AVG 2012 installed on my PC says it's fine.

A more interesting thing is instead (I hope) that I'm going to try to update official MAMEUI source code and submit a test release to John IV to see if he's interested in upgrade his "baby". This will require really a lot of time so don't hold your breath.

Cheers.

I'd rather see MAMEUIFX replace MAMEUI. I hope you and John IV will accept and do this.

And I hope that it will be offered in 32-bit since John IV decided that people with 32-bit operating systems can no longer enjoy downloading the MAMEUI from his website.

I wouldn't mind seeing that either, especially since MAMEUI has been stuck in maintenance mode with no active development for a very long time. And I know that mamesick would continue to release 32-bit versions because he has the common sense to realize that the majority of MAME users still own 32-bit operating systems.

I'm on XP SP3 32-bit and VISTA SP2 32-bit. So I *only* compile 32-bit versions of MAMEUIFX. The 64-bit variant has always been provided by fans like DaffyDuck, Haynor and others.

I'd rather have MAMEUI inline with MAME. MAMEUIFX has too many unofficial 'fixes'. If these are truly fixes, they should be submitted and included in MAME. I'm sure John would be willing to include UI optimizations though.

It would be nice if Robbbert could have a look to see if he could incorporate the changes into MESSUI.

Infact only GUI code will be updated. Autofire, Hiscore support, Sound Sync for LCD monitors and various "hacks" in drivers are an "exclusive" of FX and obviously not submittable to official source.

GUI FINAL VERSION new [Re: Mamesick]
#291228 - 07/08/12 06:51 PM

At the moment I have no more fixes/improvements/ideas in mind. So This is the final version of the GUI:

Here's VirusTotal's scan:
https://www.virustotal.com/file/b117a391...sis/1341766071/

Incidentally someone processed the file in VirusTotal upon release (around 5/26) ... and reprocessing it 07/08, we see only one scanner out of 41 flag it. And it's not AVG this time, it's Norton, saying that it's "WS.Reputation.1" meaning "we think it's suspicious because not many people have it on their hard drives."

Which is kinda silly.

If you really care about _that_, you can follow the steps (free) to become officially whitelisted. But it takes weeks for each version.

Would you be interested in attempting to remove the GUI from the emulator itself and have it as a separate application?

IMHO there are already a lot of very good frontends for MAME. I don't think there's need to create another one. My goal would be try to make it modern, faster as it was before the big C++ rewrite and the big mechanical games addition and easy to mantain not only for me but for all the good coders and MAME fans around here.
