Just wondering if future builds of MAME will take advantage of a Quad CPU!

Quad core definitely kicks ass for compiling MAME! Don't the newer processors have 8 cores?

MAME has used multiple cores for a while on 3D games like NFL Blitz, CarnEvil, and Prop Cycle.

Cheers, great news to my ears.
I am using a Intel Core 2 Duo 3.16ghz each, still not fast enough to run some of the 3d games in full speed, It runs most the 32 bit ones at close to full speed, ones above that, it can't. A CPU with 8 cores, would be nice

Law of diminishing returns when it comes to Mame and multi cores though isn't it..?
I mean, the speed increase from 2 to 4 cores isn't anything like 100%.
From my testing with a Phenom II @4Ghz, that can run with 2,3 or 4 cores turned on/off, your only looking at very small improvements once you go past 3 cores.
3 cores gives a 25% or so improvement over 2, but 4 cores is only about 5-10% faster than 3...every bit helps I suppose, but don't expect HUGE speed-ups.
This was based on running Ridge Racer BTW, I don't know if other games give better results.

In Emulation Land 25% boost is a HUGE !

Yes, you're unlikely to see runtime benefits from > 4 cores at the moment, but it's no excuse to have less
And nothing is static in MAME. Or as the man says "changes aren't permanent, but change is".

I remember reading somewhere that even if someone had a 8.0 GHz computer, that they will wouldn't be able to run NFL Blitz at full speed. Or something like that

No, Blitz has run silky smooth on top-end computers for probably 4+ years now.

It was probably estimated when p4's topped out at 3.2ghz.

The first Intel C2Ds (Conroe) back in 2006-2007 don't have any problems with Blitz E6300/E6400/E6600
It probably helps you can achieve a 60% O/C on those with very little effort
