The biggest shocker... to me... is Trent Reznor! Really? Wow.
Reminds me of of my old high school buddy Todd... but in reverse. In high school he had a mohawk, wore army boots, scrawled "anarchy" on all his stuff, and got punched in the nutz in a fight outside Big Boys. At the twenty year reunion he was a computer engineer wearing... and I shit you not... an argyle sweater.
One thing about high school that never made sense to me is why the band kids were always teased and picked on by the popular kids, but they never realized that most of the bands and musicians they idolized WERE those same "band geeks" at one point.
High school is more or less like prison, in that you find a group to belong to and you become that persona just so you fit in....then you get to college and the real world and realize that the high school cliques and popularity were all so pointless.

Reznor was/is the classic spoiled rich kid. He was part of several 'power pop' type bands in Cleveland (The Urge, and Exotic Birds come to mind). The industrial 'hardcore' stuff only came along after he saw bands like Front Line Assembly, Front 242 and Nitzer Ebb were starting to make money with their music. He and Jourgensen jumped ship from pop to industrial at about the same time.
