Marquees, CPanels, Bezels - Oh My!

Good afternoon. Ok so I got bit by the MAME bug again and I'm having a brain fart. I've dloaded the MAME .0146 .exe and the artwork and have a couple of roms for testing. I've taken the .zips from the 'artwork' folder and placed them in my mame 'artwork' directory for the roms I have. I've done the same for Marquees, CPanels and Bezels. The problem is that nothing seems to show up when the game launches. The only artwork that shows up is what is in the 'artwork' directory. I've even created a mame.ini file and under 'artwork' I've added paths to all of the folders listed above. So what am i doing wrong? Thanks much ..

Any artwork you want to use onscreen with games has to be added to the .zip file for said rom in the artwork directory, AND the .lay file in that .zip file has to be edited to incorporate each graphic. AND if any line of code is missing or wrong in the .lay file, nothing will display. See the sticky note at the top of this forum about LAY file basics. That may help.

The only items that will display during gameplay are whatever is defined in the lay file for each artwork set. Most sets only have bezels and instruction cards, though a few sets have control panels as well.

The individual files (Marquees, Cabinets, Control Panels, etc.) are currently only used by frontends while browsing the games list.
