New MAME exe in directory, and what else?

For regular use, what besides the exe do I need to put in the directory to replace the old?
|
Consider it high comedy....sincere tragedy....whatever...don't take it personally.

Everything in the package. You can delete the tools if you don't want them.

HLSL and artwork directories get updated sometimes, the hash directory if you use software lists, whatsnew.txt, any of the other executables, if you plan to use them. chdman.exe for example.

Because it's there. It will overwrite outdated files.

I only update the mame64.exe since mame 143, no problems so far...

Which allow you to configure the cartridges in multi-slot systems. I forget which ones in MAME actually support it.

Because we don't ship stuff for no reason. The binary package is what we consider to be the minimum necessary set of files to fully use MAME.
