Covertable CHD list req.
#284982 - 05/05/12 02:40 AM

Anyone have a list of the CHDs that can be successfully updated from 4 to 5 and verify properly? One game per line or a quick batch file? Thanks -

Short of the LaserDisc CHD verification issue, the remainder should all convert and verify fine. There are also still unfixed issues surrounding 64-bit usages of CHDMAN in the way of hanging the application while attempting conversions or verifications. Using a 32-bit CHDMAN on a 64-bit might be a good idea if you plan to convert everything and might work around the bug.

As of right now, I'd like to repeat, V5 is not mandatory across the board yet. Anything released since the CHD version update is expected to be V5, everything else can stay at V4 with no issues with MAME. I'd suggest everyone not convert until the official word is given. Trust me, it will save time for everyone later.

Right now it seems like the ones converted from V4 to V5 with changing SHA1's are worthless so those cases should stay at V4 in your set. At a later date those will be redumped when source becomes available and if possible.

All others that convert from V4 to V5 keeping the same SHA1 are fine to keep V5 in your set.

As far as a list goes I don't have one right now.

****note don't try this without having backups in case I'm wrong about this ******

I guess the easy way to go about it is audit with CMP correctly and set chdman to V5. It will then remove the ones with changing SHA1's which then you can replace the directories that have been removed with the ones from your V4 set (before conversion)

Is there a quick way to audit CHDs to identify which are lower than V4? Just to identify which are properly ancient?

yes there is. Use the CHDman FE and you can execute info command from the FE and it logs the information to a file.

I can tell you the konami chds don't convert properly, I always get bad SHA.

the rest pretty much work flawlessly for me.

that's because those Konami cds has to be re-ripped. the current CHDs do not include the proper gap data, so even if the emulated system does not need these data the dumps are marked as BAD_DUMP now
