D:\MAME>chdman verify -i d:\mame\roms\gauntleg\gauntleg.chd chdman - MAME Compressed Hunks of Data (CHD) manager 0.145u7 (Apr 22 2012) Raw SHA1 verification successful! Overall SHA1 verification successful!
D:\MAME>mame gauntleg gauntleg.chd DIFF CHD ERROR: unsupported CHD version ERROR: required files are missing, the game cannot be run.
So, chdman verify is successful, but MAME (0.145u7 64-bit Windows), claims "unsupported CHD version"

Delete the appropriate .dif file from your DIFF folder. The .dif file, which holds changes from the original CHD for your games, is made for a different version, making them incompatible with your current upgraded CHD.
In fact, when you upgrade CHD versions, it's always a good idea to clean house.

Thank you. That did the trick.
Oddly enough, I never paid any attention to that folder, but had always cleaned house in the ini, sta, nvram, and cfg ones.
New lesson learned for the day...Thanks again
