CHDman FE & iniCreator

As MAMErenSET collaboration with Guy Peters continues to make small but very useful utilities for MAME/MESS. This time they are two different programs together:
CHDman FE v1.0 (484 downloads 05/19/2012 10:00am) ----------------- Front-end oriented to less experienced users (or for those lazy people) that allows to perform the main functions of CHDman but very useful, the ability to perform batch operations.
iniCreator v1.0 (147 downloads 05/19/2012 10:00am) ---------------- This program does one thing only: create ini file (MAME/MESS compatible) from a folder specified by the user. Simple but often useful.
Both are downloadable from this new page of my site: progetto-SNAPS Tools. Try them and let me know your impressions.

This is a great idea. I've pushed for general MAME/MESS frontends to support CHDman, but few do

This is really cool, specially the CHD one... As for the INI program, I'll check it tomorrow only.
Congrats for you contributions, Pisa. They're very much appreciated indeed.

Very nice indeed!
I have thought about a chdman FE before, but just in musing never thought that it would happen or dared venture the idea for fear of ridicule. lol
One thing that I think would be a nice addition though, is for your FE to show what Ver. of chdman it found and is using.
Again just a thought.
I will definitely give it a try the next time I need to use chdman!

I agreed with you. It is not something to be lazy. Some people are not familiar to command prompt which is nothing wrong and this really helps a lot.
By the way... I need chdman.exe for 145u7 please ? Thanks.

Other info (thanks to Kodiak):
There is a Cores option. Setting this to one less than the total cores you have in your CPU. Will typically allow your system to still be largely useful. Where otherwise CHDman would bog down the system to where it's frustrating to use. For those with a single core. Once you start running the Update operation, you can set the priority of CHDman. Setting it to Low will typically allow you to still use your system, while CHDman works away in the background. Of course setting a lower priority & fewer cores will of the obvious side effect of taking longer to complete.
Now if the source & destination folders are set the same. The original CHD will be replaced, if a different destination location is picked the original CHD will be left unharmed.
Info & Verify options are carried out on the source folder; so if you have just carried out an Update which involved a different destination, there is a Swap button to swap source and destination entries.
