Fantastic news. Can't wait to see what impact this will have on Genesis emulation!

Reading the thread there, they expect no audible impact on emulation because the 2612 was already very thoroughly reverse-engineered already. Might clear up a few dark corners though

What other member of the y*m*ha family have internal roms that require decapping? I remember reading some years ago about another used in creative labs cards.

I think internal rom is not the goal here (unless there is something I don't know about). More visually seeing how the architecture works and that information would then in theory be transferable to other similar chips. Of which there are many.

Maybe they don't want to transfer anything, they just want to see how the chip works and document it.
Because... you know... they are a fan of the hardware. Or something.

I know that Yamaha OPL chips were used in Creative SoundBlaster cards, but I dont think they need decapping, could be very wrong though.

They used OPL2 (adlib, soundblaster, sb pro) and OPL3 (sb pro v2, sb16, adlib gold). Both have been decapped and their ROMs have been read out.

Okay, it came across like you were trying to dodge some messageboard filter or something...

Is there anything inside a Yamaha YM2151 that would make it worth decapping?
