Speaking of MAWS
#281286 - 04/02/12 09:26 PM

If not online, couldn't that be offered as a download?

Wouldn't even need any "programming" if you just leave it as a webpage, and inlcude all the relevant folders and files in the download.

Speaking of...is it deleted? Or can I give you a place to move it to? I can't recall how much of it I grabbed.

I have it. I'll upload it somewhere if you're actually going to host it but it's too much to upload otherwise. I'd be happy to mail it to you on discs if you just want to look at it or whatever.

Up to you. Right now the DB would be enough, doesn't sound like CBW was too keen on resurrecting the old site even if it could be patched up.

MAWS' new slogan should be:

"We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; But if we get attacked one time we shall surrender and die."

Are you offering you re-code it to current security standards, and have alternative hosting with adequate bandwidth at a reasonable price-point ready in case an attack happens again and we're booted from our host?

If not, go away.

I really hope it does return in some form, it was invaluable when doing board repairs. The information is elsewhere for sure but not all in one place in a nice, neat and useful format.

What did it have that mameui doesn't? I didn't really use it so I wouldn't know. I used it only when I was on vacation and never saw what the fuss was about.

Must have missed it if it was at the DU address. Doesn't link to my main account and have not sifted through that account in a while.

Ill pass along my main account.

How much would it cost to host it on another website that's not connected to the MAMEWorld network? If money is the problem, I'm sure people here (including me) would be willing to donate literally just a measly few bucks each to have it back online.

Some pimple infested little nerd living in India at his mother's house has single handedly killed MAWS. He must be laughing his butt off that MAWS is still not back online yet. Let's not let that happen.

I doubt it. Autonomous exploits rarely laugh.

Also, there isn't much point on putting it back up if the same vulnerability exists to get it taken off another server.

Progetto Emma is perfectly fine, too. Don't let the language barrier get in the way.

You just click "Ricerca Rapida" [Rapid Search] and type your game name under "Titolo Gioco" [Game's Title].

Not very difficult at all.

ProgettoEmma has most of the features that MAWS had, but not all. Such as the Hall of Fame. But I do use ProgettoEmma all the time now since MAWS no longer exists. I have to always click the Bing/Google Translate Page link.

Ain't that a bitch. Ams finally in this pinch.

I liked MAWS, as it had driver info the info.dat doesn't, and I could look stuff up without having that file on whatever device I was using. But I'm not needing it very often, so whatever.

My upload speed depends on where it's going, some servers accept it faster than others. Seems like a lot to upload for 1-2 people. There's absolutely no chance of making a download that big on MW servers but I guess it could be upped to sendspace in chunks. I'd rather not though, I already upload more than what makes Comcast happy. Anyway there is someone checking with cutebutwrong about hosting it and if that goes as planned then hopefully I can upload it there and never have to deal with it again.

Torrent it or use usenet.

Sendspacing 12 GB would absolutely suck.

Haven't used usenet in years. I'd rather sendspace something than torrent it. If you install the Wizard it's not bad, supports a reliable resume and pulls it quick. Raring it cuts the size in half but still too much. But if it can be uploaded to a new host then I would kill 1,000 birds with 1 12GB stone so I'm waiting that out.

send space is slow.

there are faster alternative... media fire, rapid share or deposit files.

Not in my experience. It varies, but sometimes pulls and pushes faster than anything else on the web for me/my location. But it's the reliability of the resume function in the Wizard program that ultimately won me over because of problems I have with my wireless connection. But anyway, I'm not uploading maws to it either way.

Yeah, hosting it somewhere would be best, because then it could be updated.
