I don't want to be pessimist but I really doubt there will be further updates. Maybe you should try to ask to MAMEPlus! guys because AFAIK it's the only MAME variant that still supports that feature.

Updates ? We have in japanese one.
The page mamelistjp keeps updating command, gamename, history/story in japanese,
and latest command.dat is v20120229 for mame 0.145.

Unfortunately, that project is not translated into English so most people won't beable to utilize and enjoy it.

GameEX with official MAME also supports Command.dat and it looks really nice actually, the best I have ever seen
