Classic arcade tournament

Did anyone post this? I'm a little late on reading Retrogaming Times Monthly this month and just noticed a tournament going on this coming weekend. They still have 18 of 40 spots open as I write this. From the site:
Quote:
The seventh annual edition of The Classic Arcade Gaming (dot com) Tournament is being held at a new, and incredible, location next year - Logan Hardware, which is located a few miles southeast of O'Hare airport in Chicago, Illinois. The two-day event will take place over one weekend in later March; specifically, Saturday March 24 and Sunday March 25, 2012. Those who have paid the entrant fee (or will pay in person) may come out and practice on Friday (the 23rd) for a small fee (though no scores will be taken; Friday is for practice only). In addition, on that day, a number of world-class players will be going for world records on a variety of tourney, and non-tourney, games.
Not too far from me, but my own gaming skills are not at competition level, though I did win a TG-16 tournament with Blazing Lasers once back in the day. The game list is halfway down the page and includes mostly big names like Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, and Robotron, but also a few lesser titles like Beastie Feastie and Kangaroo.
Site: The 2012 Classic Arcade Gaming (dot com) Tournament
Edit: Just looked further down the page. $50 tourney fee ($60 at the door). Ugh- no thanks. Definitely won't be participating, but I'll leave this post in case someone else is interested.
It's also the weekend of the much bigger Midwest Gaming Classic in Wisconsin.

Mark Alpiger runs a bunch of these each year. And yeah, he charges a hefty fee to enter. He's famous, though! He's been in King of Kong! And he writes about himself in the third person on his website that sure looks like something from 1996.

I saw that movie, but I don't actually remember anyone not named Billy Mitchell, Steve Wiebe, or Walter Day from it. In which part was he seen?

Mark Alpiger was the guy who says,"Everybody games." and later on, he explains the glove that he wears for the trackball related games (Marble Madness & Crystal Castles). He's also in the dvd extras.
There's some other cool people in that documentary, some of them I met and/or have chatted with on justin.tv.

I don't know that I'd label any of them as cool. I rubbed elbows with a few of them and promptly quit the whole classic arcade high scores scene. It stinks. The games were meant to be fun. These guys take it all way too seriously and the gossip/hate stuff is out of control.
