HLSL Scanlines not visible when pincushion =0

This HLSL code will not display scanlines for me until I change pincushion to 0.010000 or greater.
mame 0.145 resolution 640x480 for Rtype (test game)
same situation for any other game

One things jumps out at least, you shouldn't use the old effects pngs, use the appropriately crafted aperture.png.

Would this affect anything if shadow_mask_alpha is 0.000000?
I will change anyway

Well, yes, you won't see the shadow mask aperture if that's all the way turned down. Remember that you can alter all these settings in-game dynamically w/ the slider controls, hit the tilde in the upper left of your keyboard to activate.

OK, I'll have to try it out then. I stopped using HLSL because I hated changing the settings.

I just can't seem to get what I want, even scanlines on each line.
With scanline_height set to 1.0000, scanlines are not visible unless I change pincushion (leaves a circular artifact on screen) or scanline_jitter (picture looks very fuzzy)
If I change scanline_height to anything but 1 they are spaced unevenly and create a repeating banding effect down the screen
