Anyone remember Child World? They were the giant toy outlet around these parts before Toys R Us blew into town.

Yep! I loved that store. Childs' World was ten times better than Toys R Us in my opinion. I was so dissapointed when they went out of business. I don't think any Childs' World exists anywhere. What a shame.

Yup. There's a Home Depot now where the one around here once stood. I had a friend who worked there briefly. He figured out how to steal video games from them- put them outside the back door and pick them up later (or have someone grab them for you while you continue to work). Later they figured it out and had a security guard sit back there. I haven't seen him in 20 years, but I do remember he being in the local paper's police blotter a few years after I stopped hanging with him for burglary or something similar.

We had something called Toy'O (I think), had a Hippo for it's mascot. My parents only took me there once. Got some finger puppet squirrel family with a little log house (made of cloth and foam) and it came with a story book.

It went out of business many many years back. Now the building is a place for booze. So I guess in a way it's still popular for some........... "children".

I don't, but the big store near where I grew up (Central Indiana) was Children's Palace. Toys R Us put them out of business. The one I went to is a Best Buy now. The old Toys R Us is a charter school.

Yep, that was *the* toy store for a long time around where I grew up. I think that store lasted until the mid-90s or so.

My C64 came from Child World, circa 1983. I remember being pissed that I couldn't go with my dad to pick it up because I was still recovering from chicken pox at the time.
