Special artwork

Sorry for my English
Hello, in my first post I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you an idea I'm doing.
The idea is about artworks for mame games that simulate the look of the original cabinet´s game, showing the marquee, the bezel and control panel.
This is thinking of playing mame on a monitor turned vertically, and although you can use with any size monitor, one of about 37 "or 42" would show its approximate real size.
visualization example
![](http://fotos.subefotos.com/3c85e6b41b703d4c1c827fab9f042a24o.jpg)
First I created a standart layout for all mame games, so everyone is in the same format.
![](http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/2768/macalayouthorizontal.jpg)
![](http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/1681/macalayoutvertical.jpg)
More examples of generic layouts

![](http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/1681/macalayoutvertical.jpg)
Now I'm doing one by one the games that I find arts.

![](http://fotos.subefotos.com/8583e2a554c5fecccc9dba9d11ae3a0bo.jpg)
Usage
Once we download the file we are interested (each game has its own full artwork), all you need to start enjoying it is to copy the file (zip) into the folder of mame artwork, simple as that ![](//www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif)
We also need to have the program configured as follows
![](http://www.retrovicio.org/ficheros/diseno/5985/conf1.jpg)
![](http://www.retrovicio.org/ficheros/diseno/5985/conf2.jpg)
In addition, you must have specified the path to the artwork folder in menu options>directories>artwork
Thanks to Lord_Hiryu for letting use many of its arts and its marquees and Macarro´s Vcabinet, whence comes this idea. Just as users of both retrovicio.org arcadeforever.es mainly to share their works.
Each design is for a particular game, so I will update as soon as I finish

The bezel being utilized is the older/inaccurate one missing the large red dots.

Hmmm. Interesting. i think I like it. Although I don't have a monitor of that type so I likely won't use it.
Isn't Mr. Do already working on something like this? He's been hinting at it for a while now.
I like the lighting effects (Back-lit marquee, unlit bezel, partially lit control panel) and I like the perspective added to the control panel.
there may not be a "one size fits all" framework for these because not all control panels and marquees were the same size.

Thanks, already corrected

All of my artwork files have been set up this way for some time, even before they added the marquee/cpo functionality to MAME. It's why I've worked so much on CPOs lately, and done them in such a way that others (e.g. Mr. Do) can integrate them into 3-D views. I have a 52" flat panel monitor that I mounted to a swivel so that I can rotate the monitor 90° to enjoy either portrait or landscape orientation depending on the game, and in portrait orientation I have the marquee/bezel/cpo displaying in something close to actual size, and this is especially important when integrating a front-end with Future Pinball, MAME, Daphne, etc. It allows me to run pinball in arcade render mode with the second monitor as the backglass, etc.
Now if I could only integrate my X-Arcade panel with my various flight joysticks and such.

I've never seen this cabinet. can show a picture and I change it? Thanks The designs I make them by hand with photoshop, but there are many cabinets that are not as they really are and I guided by pictures I find online. So find fault, but with your help and knowledge will correct.
Sorry for my bad english, i need a online translator :-)

Here it is. It will be hard to do because the monitor is at an angle. Nightvoice is right there are many different types of cabinets. Do a Google image search to see the cabinet you are working on.
Don't worry about your bad english. You are doing fine and the work you are doing is really nice.
*edit* speaking of bad english I left out an "R"

Hello, some time ago that I do not put anything new, and the reason is that I'm changing how I do the full artworks. Now I'm doing so that you can select from the menu on mame, and using the different elements separately rather than a single image as before. The resolution changes from 1050x1680 to 4000x6400. I would also say that these designs I make for my own use for a reason that will show you soon, and I share in case anyone wants to use Tomorrow will update with nearly seventy designs in the new format. You can now select from the menu on mame as "VCabinet" (virtual cabinet), here you have an example:

hehe I know this bezel, cool that you are using it. Here goes the original one I made if you want: http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/2170/genericbezel.png
I loved the control panel you made for the Neo Geo. The buttons are perfect (where did you get these?) and the perspective is spot on, but joystick is different from the original and its perspective is wrong. Could you upload the buttons separately? Regards.
EDIT: It'll be so cool when we can choose the screen inclination.

Thanks for the bezel Ramirez, sure I'll use it on more occasions. The buttons are taken from cpwizard. I leave you in the attachment.

I've the project open in Photoshop. If you want, I can send you the .psd via email.
I texturized and darkened it a bit and this is how it is looking at 4000px right now... I don't know if you prefer with ou without shadow...

I am REALLY loving this thread!
Question: have you thought of adding or speaking to David Valdeita (Seleuco)of iMAME4All to add support for your artwork.
Reason being, I personally think it perfectly fits iPad/Android tablets, especially when you add the iCade to the mix.
What's your thoughts?

Hello, very good idea. I think imame4all uses official artwork, mine are the same but adding another view more, so I think that can be used with imame4all. I make them for use with a bartop I'm doing, and they will both mame and vpinball with a 22" monitor. Here it is a design in 3D:
![](http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/9714/vcabinetzf.png) In the future I have planned to do a lowboy style cabinet with a 37" tv.

These work nicely. I'm just finishing up converting my homebrew files to this format so that I can add a VCabinet option to my front-ends. I wish there were a place to download photos of the speaker panels unique to each cabinet, but nobody seems to find them photo-worthy.

What software program below in your post are you using. I can't read foreign language to know what program your using. Or what MAME version did you use. How can I create one of these for myself you didn't explain how you did all this as I have lots of artwork I want to use. This is the look im going for when playing my MAME Arcade games.

This is exactly how I want my games to look like in MAME. I downloaded all the zip files that you posted that I had the ROMS for. I have over 1,500 marquees that I want to use and wanted to know if you can help me with compiling a .LAY file to create such artwork like you have here. What are the steps to doing this sort of project ? What program did you use to create this artwork ?
Can you provide some assistance or any help ? Please let me know. I like your formatting on the games you posted here also the ones on the thread Special Project. I think your the one that posted that thread. Let me know here or you can e-mail me at .... I want my games looking like the ones you posted here the artwork is great and I love looking at the marquees while im playing a MAME game.
BTW: Do you have a html MAME LAYOUT I can go by when creating my artwork. I found one I think you posted but want to make sure I do this project right the first time. Any help you provide me or can share in english terms he-he would be excellent buddy.. Thanks.

Hello, all you need is mame. First copy the compressed files in the "artwork" folder of mame. When launching the game, press "tab", then, in the menu "video options" choose artwork "VCabinet mode". Plus you have to select to show you all artworks (marquee, bezel, etc., ...), Make sure the option "crop artwork" is not activated, and you rotate the image, as they are designed to be viewed in portrait . These artworks are designed for use in a wide-screen monitor with 16:10 format rotated vertically.
To make these artworks need to know how work lay files.
You can download a tutorial I did in Spanish here: http://www.m*diafire.com/view/?ssrw72ipha5anmk (change "*" to "e") You can also find information in English here: http://mamedev.org/devwiki/index.php/LAY_File_Basics_-_Part_I

To me, this format makes the most sense because although every game has different dimensions and configurations, there are lots of ways to fill out a 9:16 screen. If I can't do it with a speaker panel, I can do it with control panels/overlays or even partial kickplates. And, obviously, it works with your physical cabinet.

I REALLY like how you made it look like the monitor was in the middle of the artwork. I'd love to see that implemented in more artwork files

Hello MAME Fans..
Been some time since I have used this FORUM Can someone be as kind to tell me where to place this file "(zip)" into my MAME. "I D/L it last night and placed it in my artwork folder and hit the tab button and scrolled under video options. Only video options I saw there where MAME'S options ___ > Standard, Pixel Aspect, Cocktail, Debug....
And not the D/L zip file of pacman that I should be able to use. ![](//www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif)
It's been a year and a half since I have been here sorry for that my old computer I used that I had my MAME project on got wiped out when my M/B went up in flames so I lost all the old work and all my MAME Files. Now keeping MAME on a backup hard drive this time. All I need is my memory refreshed I just need to know where to place this zip file so is there something IM missing. I use MAME 0.146b and MAME Plus 0.154 there both binary files of MAME. Hope to get the answer soon so I can enjoy these files that Antolin created. Any help would be cool. Thanks.
PS Do you keep the file zipped in the artwork file or do you need to extract it into the folder ? Or are there other steps that I need to do ?? Hmm If I remember you need to just keep it zipped and place it into the artwork folder and that's it. But done that and nothing. That's the reason for my post here today guy's.

Make sure the artwork zip file is the same name as your rom zip files. Like Pac-Man, you'd want to make sure the file is named pacman.zip

There are already a few artwork files with animated controls (HAPP push buttons, blinking volcano button LEDs, gear shifters). Working joysticks should be possible as well, but I haven't actually tried it yet. I'm currently working on (and have completed) adding shifters to some games that don't have them, but a lot of games don't support multi-state shifters yet. That would be a mammoth project, I think, for the devs to set that up for so many games. I'd be willing to work on it if they got me some sample code to make it happen and told me how to submit it to the project, but even then it would take some time to set the artwork files up. You'd also have to have good photos (or convincing 3D replications) of each joystick in all 9 positions, and that could be tricky.
What I'd also like to see is some kind of ability to have rotating steering wheels and incremented throttles (such as for Lunar Lander). Alas, if only I were a real coder...
