Happy Birthday MAME, MAMEdevs and MAME community.
Special thanks to Nicola, Ha*e, Aaron and the marvelous Kale the historical coordinators. Many thanks to all the great and small contributors too. I love so many of you that I can not name you all.
I wonder what MAME will look like in 15 years

now that 15 years have passed it would be great to see either some kind of interview with the devs or perhaps a 'ask the devs' thread
(my question would be: over the last 15 years, what has been mame's greatest moment?)

I don't want to be a killjoy... or start a flamme war... but I would ask them about future rather than the past.
For five next years : Where does mame go ? hard to see/say What are goals/projects ? What about arcade video games ?
so vague ligne and so few devs involved recently, i can't be the only one to ask me this kind of questions.
Other question is what in this comming mounths can make me download a mame executable and update my set, thing i didn't do since one year at least.

* Get at very least Win 98 to boot properly on PC HW; * Get all of the Raiden 2 games to work properly; * Get HW acceleration so stuff like Naomi games will work at decent speeds; * Get multiple instances of the same Arcade machine to run on the same end, so that stuff like 4p Cadash can work properly; * Improve all of the console stuff, SMS, Famicom, MD, SuFami, Saturn, PSX, N64 so that the Arcade counterparts works better as well; * Fix or try to fix all of the remaining GNW; * Improve timings and general emulation of older drivers, and fix any long running regression that is still there (Ninja Kazan, Over Drive etc.);
Not necessarily in this order ...

Recently? In the last 2 versions released (which is the last 2 weeks of development) the devs involved were Aaron Giles, David Haywood, Angelo Salese (Kale), Phil Bennett, Olivier Galibert, Pierpaolo Prazzoli (Reip), Mariusz Wojcieszek, Hap, Carl, Barry Rodewald, Curt Coder, Roberto Fresca, MooglyGuy, Brian Troha, Stephh, and myself. Plus several key external contributors (Grull Osgo gets special props for kickstarting the i386+ work).
I'm not sure what you'd consider to be "many" devs, but for me that fits the bill ;-)

Happy to see all this and a lot of people will rejoice with this small list. Running multiple instance will be a great progress.

The two past weeks are not representative of what have been acheived during last months.... OG, robbie, and kale works every releases, indeed. Ha*e is back since more times, but only worked on fruit machines and recently on soft list ans flac implementation... (hope this will be his redemption).
Most of devs you told contribute episodically, like Moglyguy or others. eg Aaron is back (for a long time i hope) only since two weeks as we can read him in the mame what's new. Still nothing about the dynamic recompler R. (no i joke !).
Nothing significant have been done but perhaps HLSL (not sure it is a 2011 development), but fews on arcade video games. Perhaps OG and kale worked on raiden 2 and nothing else major i can recall. Guru missing... rip... Dr decapitator also...
This two last weeks have been really more alive than de recent past.

What exactly have you done?
Don't you understand core improvements and bugs getting squashed happen with each new release?
Things are also getting ported to C++ and this doesn't happen overnight.
I ask again, what have you done?
Aren't you grateful that work is being done at all and people are willing to donate their free time for this project?
It's amazing too me some people have been involved for more than 10 years and still continue to contribute.

It's not a full time job & just because something hasn't been checked in doesn't mean there isn't progress.

I thought you guys might like to see this, the first time i ever heard about Mame was from this article in Issue #47 of EDGE magazine in June 1997..it blew my mind at the time, i didnt have a PC, just a Playstation, but after reading this article, the die was cast, and i started to save up for my first PC (and 56k internet connection..:))
..15yrs later, my love for Mame is still as strong as ever..

On Ye Olde MAME site (www.mame.net), if I recall correctly, there was a scan of that article permanently stored.
(I helped Nicola track down a lot of the early media references to MAME when he published his doctoral thesis paper.)

Slightly OT, but is this thesis available somewhere ? Even if I guess it's written in Italian, I'd be happy to read it ...
