1943 question - enemy fire rate

The other night, I was playing 1943 in 144u5, and on the seventh level, the enemy fire (planes, and the boss - which I didn't quite survive) was super fast! I've been there enough times in older MAME, and don't recall that. Is there something goofy going on currently?

Consider it high comedy....sincere tragedy....whatever...don't take it personally.

Level seven bullets are supposed to be fast
This is probably a step toward 100% emu.

The speed of the bullets is probably determined by the "Difficulty" dipswitch setting. A lot of games have recently had their dipswitch defaults corrected; maybe 1943 was one of them? It could be it was defaulting to the easiest setting in the older MAME version you remember.

I hadn't thought of that, but that isn't the case. Both .104 and .144u5 are at "8(NORMAL)" .
