My TrackBall Buttons don't Respond. HELP!
#272711 - 01/11/12 01:03 PM

Greetings! I'm new to this forum so please forgive me If i'm covering an old issue.

I have a Kensington Expert Mouse/Trackball w/ 4 buttons.

The buttons work in my OLD mame version of .098 However the trackball wasn't compatible with that version.

I downloaded the newest version .144.5 and the trackball works like a dream. Unfortunately, none of the four buttons will respond in the new version. The Left click works in the game list interface but in IN game. I've tried setting the compatibility on the executable to 7, xp, vista and even ran "as Administrator" but the buttons are still not responsive. Since they worked in the old version is there something I'm not doing? Thanks for any advice you guys can give me.

P.S. The buttons respond on my old mouse but its a Logitech Wireless. I don't want to go back to it since I want to use the track ball in the games. thanks!

Hit Tab, go into the button remapper, and map the buttons appropriately.

The command-line trigger "-mouse" also works wonders for allowing you to use in-game. Navigation around menus with a mouse-type device isn't attached to that command which is why that will work and while using MAME functions (mapping and playing) does not.

sorry to mislead you. I'm a noob to this forum not to mame.

When i'm in the game the buttons wont map

I highlight player button 1, Hit the button to clear
the old map, I hit the buttons on my
trackball controller and there's no response
even when the player button 1 already says
Mouse button 0, There's no responce when testing the game.

I've already checked Mame.ini to make sure that there's a 1 next to Mouse under input controls. Also, the trackball button(s) work fine when I'm in the game list screen. Only when I'm IN game is there no responce from the trackball buttons. What's Next??

Sorry this didn't help. The four trackball buttons are still nonresponsive while in game even though
the trackball unit works fine outside the game
enviroment. This sounds like it should real simple
but I can't put a finger on it.

You have to hold the button (or key) down for a very long time when remapping. It's a safety feature.

Greetings Mr. Belmont.

I was really hoping that you had my solution. Unfortunately I held the button down for a 30 count twice and it didn't map or respond. Funny thing about that security measure is I turned on my Logitech wireless laser mouse and the buttons map immediately. It's just this Kensington Expert Trackball button(s) don't want to work. The Trackball is fine outside of Mame. I can't fathom why a normal mouse works and this Trackball doesn't. Just the buttons though, the ball itself works beautifully. Such a mystery.

If you come up with something new, I'll gladly try it out.
