Bug with artwork modes?
#271274 - 12/18/11 09:28 PM

The 'alpha' channel is not adjustable while using overlay mode, so we can't adjust the 'opacity'.

In bezel_name.lay file;
color alpha="0.5"

Who would be able to look into this? Should I contact Aaron Giles and is he still active? I am happy to work with him to solve this if required.

Thanks.

If I'm wrong someone correct me...

The overlay only modifies the RGB of the screen; there's no alpha blending, because the overlay isn't typically visible in the first place (as most games that use an overlay use a monitor that lies down in the cabinet, and reflects up to a mirror).

In a game where the overlay is visible (such as Star Castle), the LAY file includes a second entry using the overlay element as a bezel (as it sits on top of the screen), usually with an alpha of around 0.2-0.4

RELAX and just have fun. Remember, it's all about the games.

I don't see why alpha channel setting should not be available to use with overlay mode if one wants to use it though.

Point is I have made an .png file with a 'phosphur pattern' that I would want to use this with.

Unless you are saying that I am confused and trying to do the impossible. If so, here are the problems I have found from the different 'modes' available as at v143u9:

Backdrop;
A) My phosphur pattern appears in black/really dark image areas which I don't think we want as I assume the phosphurs shouldn't be lit or that bright and also the end result looks as if we had otherwise turned the 'gamma' up.
B) My phosphur pattern does not appear in white/really bright image areas which I don't think is correct since I assume that the phosphur pattern should be noticeable. An interesting side effect of this is that the bright areas of the game image look like they are boosted.
C) The 'alpha' channel is adjustable.

Overlay;
A) You cannot see my phosphur pattern in black/really dark image areas which I think is correct.
B) You can see my phosphur pattern in white/really bright image areas which I think is correct.
C) The 'alpha' channel is not useable while using overlay mode, so we can't adjust the 'opacity' of the png file. The result is that my phosphur pattern is very overpowering and you end up with a very dark game image.

Bezel;
A) My phosphur pattern appears in black/really dark image areas which I don't think we want as I assume the phosphurs shouldn't be lit or that bright and also the end result looks as if we had otherwise turned the 'gamma' up.
B) You can see my phosphur pattern in white/really bright image areas which I think is correct.
C) The 'alpha' channel is adjustable.

So, from reading above can you tell me which of the above might be a fixable bug, or can anything be changed/improved so that I can use my 'phosphur pattern' .png file as I would like?

Thankyou.
