I don't remember that one being that bad but I'll check it again. Off the top of my head I think it was The Living Daylights that was 3rd lamest, I recall Joe Don Baker playing with a toy set being puke worthy. Dalton wasn't a bad Bond I don't think, he just got dicked with everyone around him. They shouldn't have brought Baker back in later Bond films as a different role either, that was weird and stupid.

I thought Timothy Dalton made an excellent Bond as well. He just was a product of the environment and casting.

Pffft. The worst Bond movie ever is Casino Royale - the original 1967 version. A star studded cast, but an appallingly bad movie. In fact, this would have to be in the bottom 3 movies of all time. If you haven't seen it yet, do so - I dare you.

I haven't seen it. I'll attempt to watch it later if it's on Netflix but if it's that bad I'm sure I will turn it off.

I agree. It is the worst of the lot.

The new one with the same name is not too bad.

Never say never just a remake of thunderball anyway... But not that bad.

I would have to say License to kill then Die another day.

The 1967 Casino Royale wasn't a bond movie. It was a failed attempt at a spoof of the spy genre in general and the 007 films in particular.

A reviewer on IMDB says:

Quote:

It helps if you're able to live in Kierkegaard's unfolding moment if you want to enjoy this movie. Or in Fritz Perl's "here and now", to switch hoaxes in midstream.

It's pointless to compare "Casino Royale" to any of the other "straight" Bond films. There is no "plot" worthy of the name. The five disparate directors saw to that, to the extent that the writers didn't. It's a succession of gags, puns, and visual effects taking place in spectacularly designed settings, spoofs of German expressionism, psychedelic imagery, and all that. Some of the gags miss the mark. A British soldier who has been practicing karate chops on wooden boards comes to a stiff attention when his superior approaches and snaps a quivering Brit-style salute, knocking himself out with his own hand. Ha ha.

Such silliness abounds and at times the movie drags a bit, but there is always another joke around the corner. Orson Welles, with his fat cigar at the card table, performing magic tricks with flags and scarves amid flashing lights while everyone whistles and applauds. Peter Sellers trying on different costumes for Ursula Andress, including one of a gruff old general, "There's nothing wrong with the British Ahmy -- that a damned good swim won't cure."

You really can't look for logic in all of this. Listen to the score and watch the performers squeeze the most possible laughs out of their situations. Too bad the movie loses steam at the end so that what should be a climactic pulling together of all the accumulated lines of narrative and jokes is, instead, just plain silly -- clapping seals, parachuting Indians. Ridiculous, but not funny. Writers who have trouble ending absurd movies like this seem to think that a few minutes of chaotic slapstick will serve. "What's New, Pussycat" had the same problem, with people running frantically from room to room in a hotel, a Feydeau farce without laughs. "Sex and the Single Girl" thrust everybody into vehicles and sent them racing down a California freeway with nothing to say. Just about all of "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" was an attempt to substitute destruction and speed for wit.

I saw this movie when it was released and laughed from beginning to end. I don't find it quite so funny now, (I don't find ANYTHING quite so funny anymore) but I watch it when I can. It's an opportunity to live in the unfolding moment.

Die Another Day (2002) is hands-down the worst Bond film.

This film has 1137 reviews on IMDB and more people hated it than loved it.

Here's my IMDB review...

Quote:

Worst. Bond Film. Ever.
26 April 2004
1/10

Let me start off by saying that I'm a big fan of Brosnan. He is my second favorite Bond after Connery. I think that "Tomorrow Never Dies" is about as close as you can get to a perfect Bond movie.

However, I was shocked at how utterly terrible "Die Another Day" was. They completely took the tried and tested Bond formula, threw it out the window, and replaced it with CRAP!

Bond films are supposed to have dramatic throwaway openings that get you all fired up for the rest of the movie. This film spends about 20 minutes showing Bond getting tortured. Oh Joy. Show me more.

Then they fill the movie with plot devices like genetic manipulation, gadgets like the invisible car, and locations like the ice palace that are too silly and unbelievable for even a Bond film.

Finally, they try to shoehorn in "cute" references to all the other bond films. Someone somewhere thought they were cool for thinking this up and probably broke their arm trying to pat themselves on the back. It is all just pointless and far too forced.

I was glad to see John Cleese finally take over the Q role but unfortunately it might be his last time. As bad as this movie was, I'm not sure they'll make another Bond film.

I had forgotten about that one, for some reason they don't have it playable on Netflix while all the other Brosnan ones are. I remember it being kind of lame but not as lame as Grandpa Bond in Boredomfinger (Never Say Never Again) or So Much Is Wrong I Want To Die (License to Kill). I agree Brosnan was great at the role in general. You should maybe rewatch Tomorrow Never Dies though, it's good but the villain is flat out terrible. Definitely one of the lamest ever villains to the point where I wouldn't put it anywhere near the top. GPS was hot lol.

Ha, I just watched that the other weekend on TV.

Absolutely awful, its one redeeming feature Halle Berry.

Dunno about you guys... new [Re: Smitdogg]
#271016 - 12/15/11 05:04 PM

I actually liked Licence to Kill. Don't know what was supposed to be so bad about it. I have a healthy respect for Dalton, although some of his roles are just laughable. Carey Lowell, mmmm. Benicio del Toro, a good maniacal sidekick to Robert Davi's dark villain. Wayne Newton, perfect comic foil, bless his heart.

I also liked OHMSS. It showed a softer, more jovial and vulnerable side which fit George Lazenby fine. Plus the ever-lovable Diana Rigg as a rebel-turned-bride. Savalas was forgettable. It's a real downer to see what happens so soon after the wedding.

I also actually liked Die Another Day. Halle Berry's beach surfacing scene was only one of several memorable moments for me.

As for bad Bond movies, the more I think about Moonraker and Never Say Never Again, the more I cringe. The World Is Not Enough also turned me off, due to Denise Richards being completely plastic (har har) and Robert Carlyle totally underwhelming.

Dammit, no more John Cleese as Q.

The bless your heart thing was fine the first couple of times he used it. Then he just drove it into the ground like it was indefinitely funny but it wasn't. I thought about writing down a list of everything terrible in the movie but it's not worth the effort. I'll leave you with, remember the chick having the shotgun under the table in the tiki bar scene? She was barely wearing clothes at all, and even if she was wearing baggy clothes, her sneaking it in would be a stretch. With the clothes she was wearing it would be absolutely impossible. And what would be the point, all she needed was a little pistol. She was also so skinny and petite it looked like anything but a pea shooter would knock her over. And she's supposed to have all this experience. Ah. Stuff like that every 5 minutes.

I don't remember disliking that one too much either. Wasn't there something lame with the story though, brainwashing chicks or something, I might be confusing it with something else, it has been forever since I watched it.

Whoever cast Richards for that role needs to be punched in the face. We were supposed to believe some supermodel was a scientist, it was insulting.

Yeah why did he leave the role?

I agree on Moonraker being one of the worst. All the late Roger Moore movies make me really sleepy.

Guess I'll just have to watch it again so I can corroborate... or not.

Are we talking about the same Carey Lowell? Ever seen her in Law & Order? (Nahhhh, prolly not) At 5'10" she isn't exactly a wallflower... And as I recall from that bar scene in LtK, she was dressed in leathers and body armor, with only her arms, shoulders and some neckline exposed.

Dunno, it may just have been a casting thing beyond his control, coinciding with all the reboot business around Daniel Craig. Can't say for certain. (Mind you, they kept Judi Dench... Don't see why Cleese couldn't have stayed too)
