ProjectMESS unveiled!

After some months of struggle with PHP and real life syndrome, I have finally found the time to finish my small project for a MAWS-like website devoted to MESS software lists.
Enjoy the result at http://www.progettoemma.net/mess/ !!
The website dynamically generates a page for each game listed in our xml softlists, including *all* the info contained in the lists themselves. And, of course, you can search through lists for a specific title, or a publisher or a year.
Plus, courtesy of AntoPISA snap packs (plus some additions by myself and Sandro Ronco), we display snaps of the games as emulated in MESS, when available. Plus, courtesy of arcade-history and its history.dat, we display the history info for neogeo games
The content is not so rich at the moment (lot of systems have no snaps nor history), but if you want to contribute with snaps and/or history-like info, just contact me and I'm sure we will be able to work together to make the website richer and richer!!
Finally, notice that at the moment the website won't contain pages devoted to the systems emulated by MESS: the focus is only on the software lists! In future, I plan to add support for systems pages, but for the moment you have to refer to our MESS Wiki for this kind of info
p.s. a *huge* thanks goes to s_bastian both for hosting the site and for the PHP help he provided. Thanks mate!

Great work! Could you implement a checkbox on the search page for only returning results which have screenshots?

it makes sense, at least at this stage when most systems don't have snaps. I have added it to my todo list.
Anyway, lists with snaps are the ones listed at the bottom of AntoPISA's page: http://www.progettosnaps.net/mess/
+ alice32, alice90, vg5k and neogeo (partial)
and scv also features two collection of snaps

A certain dev did release a proof-of-concept of this a few days ago. I will say no more though as there is no news about it here, meaning it is not welcome.

ProjectMESS updated a bit!

OK. Some content updates at ProjectMESS!
First of all, we have a shiny new logo (courtesy of Tox Nox Fox)! And we have a contact form, if you want to contact me by email.
Then, I have done a few small fixes here and there to the search engine, which is now even more robust when you reorder the results or change the number of results per page.
Finally, I have added the option to export the results of any search in various formats (see links at the bottom of the result page). E.g. if you want to see (in a human readable format) which games are supported by the pokemini.xml list, you can simply search 'pokemini' as list and export the results as 'listfull' to get the same output you would get by MAME -listfull command (i.e. shortname / description)
Or you can export the results as QMC2 list of favorites! Indeed you can follow the next steps
1. go to the website and do any search you are interested in 2. at the bottom of the result page, you get various export options. choose QMC2 favs 3. the browser opens up a new page which contains: a link to the txt file expected by QMC2 and a preview of the content (so that you can check if a refined search would be needed to create your list of favorites *before* importing it in QMC2 ) 4. save the file with the proper name and import it in QMC2
et voila', your list of favorite games has been imported in the frontend
Enjoy!
p.s. I'm also slowly adding snaps to several lists (e.g. nes and gba), but it takes time. I will announce the full sets when ready

Same symptoms here, and that's the first time I tried to view it. Probably the last, too. First impressions stick.

well, it's been fully functional for 7 days of continuous updates behind the scenes. it's pretty bad if you get the only impression by this 1hr of downtime

It's working now. The bad impression is kind of magnified by the way I saw notification of an update, so I thought, "Oh, I really should take a look at that," and then I just see two slashes. It's like, "Well, he could've at least checked that the site was there before telling us to look at it." You know, looks unprofessional and all.

I perfectly understand the reaction. problem is that I tested the site when I posted here.
afterwards, I fixed a typo and the ftp client decided to screw index.html instead of overwriting it with the correct file. reuploading it brought the site back. sorry for the inconvenience.

Snap galore!

Short summary of the new features (read more details at ProjectMESS): - more snaps (thanks also to the contribution of AntoPISA and Kaylee), including ~2400 snaps for NES and GBA (2 snaps each for ~1200 game profiles) - resizeable snaps in the game pages (some computer snap was definitely to large to fit the design, and some handheld snap was too small to appreciate emulation) - snap preview at the search result page - random gallery page for spending some leisure time
Have fun!
