Favorite Obscure Arcade Games

I'd like to hear some of your favorite OBSCURE arcade games. You can see a list of mine below, in my signature. I'd like to discover some hidden gems. A hidden gem means a good game that most people have never played or heard of before.
Also... Who can guess what game my avatar is from?

Your list is very surprising because many of the games you name are very well known (at least for me) and it might be difficult to guess what kind of games you are looking for ...
Anyway, here is a first list of 25 games I've discovered with MAME in which I would have been happy to insert some real coins at that time :
Code:
1943kai "1943 Kai: Midway Kaisen" 3stooges "The Three Stooges In Brides Is Brides" balcube "Bal Cube" berlwall "The Berlin Wall" biomtoy "Biomechanical Toy" bombkick "Bomb Kick" domino "Domino Man" dreamwld "Dream World" gnbarich "Gunbarich" hyperpac "Hyper Pacman" irrmaze "The Irritating Maze" jmpbreak "Jumping Break" loderndf "Lode Runner - The Dig Fight" maniacsp "Maniac Square" (the prototype only) mcatadvj "Magical Cat Adventure" (the Japanese version is far better) mgcrystl "Magical Crystals" ninclown "Ninja Clowns" osman "Osman" pass "Pass" pnickj "Pnickies" puzznic "Puzznic" qad "Quiz & Dragons" (US version only of course) sabotenb "Saboten Bombers" twinkle "Twinkle" volfied "Volfied"
Have fun and feel free to comment the list !

That is correct in regards to my avatar. Thanks for the list. I've played some of them before, but the ones I haven't, I will check them out and let you know what I think.

Also, check out Gigandes, the only horizontal shooter where you lose your weapons after every stage.

I was scratching my head on this one- all I could see was the Nemo avatar yesterday and today. Like, did he change it for awhile then go back to it? Obviously not, so I did a shift-reload and now I see you did change it. I didn't like that anim anyway- enlarged it too much. Here's a later version. I think I will add in Flip next for the fun of it.

Thanks Qun Mang! The new avatar you made of Nemo looks great. I switch my avatars weekly. I will be using that new Nemo avatar that you just created in a couple days.

May I offer my congratulations in still being able to form coherent thoughts, and/or escaping the Men in Black after playing it.

Anybody ever seen this Polybius machine? it's bull is't it.

I’m convinced Mario is a hobo.
He wakes up everyday in the same clothes, runs around in sewers, and collects coins for a living.
At the end of the day, he uses the coins to buy mushrooms

My cousin's neighbor's best friend's uncle totally played it, then went crazy and shot up a Denny's. True story.

It's an urban legend. Read about it on Wikipedia. It's interesting. Someone actually made a homemade "Polybius" PC game.

I was there for that, strange night. To top it off I was only two bites into my "Moons over my hammy". I never did get to finish it. Your acquaintance owes me some Dennys.

Couldn't play it the first day I found it in MAME for laughing.
Cheers,

I've recently become addicted to Peter Pepper's Ice Cream Factory, it's tough but once you get the hang of it it's a pretty fun game and has a lot of the gameplay assets of Burgertime, I can make it to like the 8th level now.
Victory is another I like, it's sort of like Defender except with 360 degree rotation by the player, like PPIF I think poor hardware design was responsible for its obscurity.
Turbo Sub would be 3rd on my list!

I tried playing that game but I got frustrated because that game takes forever to load... there is a very long countdown before the game starts (Peter Pepper's Ice Cream Factory)
Is there anyway to bypass that countdown so the game loads right away.

You can enable autosave in MAME.ini. That will automatically save the state when you exit the game and restore it when you start it up. I believe it works for DECO Cassette games.
You can also press F10 during the countdown to unthrottle MAME. Assuming your machine is reasonably fast, the countdown will run a little faster. Just remember to turn it back on before you try to play.

Another option: holding down the Page Down key will unthrottle MAME to the maximum speed it can run at; let the key back up, and it returns to whatever setting it was at before you pressed it. I'm assuming this isn't specific to SDL builds on OS X.

Arcade operators had to deal with that delay every morning when all their machines powered up. Autosave would be a good idea, but it's not stable at all for that game/driver. Best bet is to either play it for a while when you do load it up and use INSERT to fast-forward the emulation as quick as your machine allows during the initial loading process.

Thanks for the tips.
By the way, to the person who suggested this game... I'm not sure if you are aware of this but this is the sequel to "Burger Time." You said the game was similiar to Burger Time, so that's why it's similiar.
Another good obscure hidden gem is the game "Burglar X"

It isn't, but on Windows it defaults to the Insert key.
