.avi sound help

Does anybody know of a software way to increase the volume of an .avi while it is playing, sort of a software amp. I'm not interested in taking the file apart and making changes to it, just amplifying it while it is playing. (Not loud enough while playing on a laptop)
Edit: Free program if possible
