question about arcade cab artwork
#262430 - 08/18/11 09:46 AM

which company did the artwork for the pacman and galaga arcade cabinet?was it namco or midway?and if possible who was the artist who worked on it?

I’m convinced Mario is a hobo.
He wakes up everyday in the same clothes, runs around in sewers, and collects coins for a living.
At the end of the day, he uses the coins to buy mushrooms

If licensing is your goal, I wish you luck with Namco....

Namco created Pacman, and Midway was the producer/distributor states-side. Midway did change the artwork, not sure who did it though. The Ultimate History of Video Games had a blurb on that, don't think they mentioned a "who" either.

I think Galaga was a similar situation, not sure if the art ever changed though.

the reason i'm asking this is because its been confusing me why all console namco games have altered artwork and why the more recent arcade cabs such as ms.pacman 20th have the originals.i'm trying to piece together the answer. heres a pic from the new galaga pacman dimentions for 3ds .you can see the way the new artwork is displayed mixed with the old.weird. a similar post i posted in the beginning about this is here......

If that is the artwork in the new game coming out, it will mark the first time ever that Namco uses American artwork in a console port (that I can think of, anyway).

Part of the reason is they probably only ever had access to their own local artwork, but not any overseas (i.e. USA) artwork. (BTW... Namco is probably the best company at keeping archives of its arcade artwork.)

But now thanks to MAME, a really good Epson scanner, and dedicated hobbyists, they now have access to US artwork, such as the cabaret version, used in your post, which was never previously available until we scanned it.

RELAX and just have fun. Remember, it's all about the games.

Lots of companies do. Check out Burnin' Rubber for PSN/PSP:

Funny part is, they grabbed it right before it was updated to the current artwork.

Had the developer asked, I would've gladly sent them the scan I had.'

Same developer used Lock n Chase, too.
