Very cool. I thought it was just me, and had custom settings, increasing saturation and lowering gamma on Phoenix and Kung Fu Master. Glad to see this fixed.

which one? it should be removed (and it should also have been caught by internal validation procedures... not sure how it passed those)

wait, rom or romset? I thought romset. if it's in the rom name, then it's valid (and MESS softlists contain tons of those)

weird, I was pretty sure there was a validity check which forced setnames to be strictly 'letters'+'digits'+'_' only. but it's not in validity.c, so probably I dreamt about it...
anyway, I see no real reason to have anything beyond 'letters'+'digits'+'_' in setnames (weird chars should be in the descriptions only )

this is totally amazing. There's a problem and we're eager to fix and he can't even tell us the fucking name of the set after several people requested to know the name? Geez!

it has been determined that it is a rom with the apostrophe, not a romset. and therefore there is nothing to fix unless there are multiple issues, of course... my source base is a bit out of date and I cannot check directly

Just to clarify: my parser (recently changed) crashed on rom "u4,u86" (CRC 497fad4c) of "pipedrm" set (and its clones) because the comma that is found exclusively in this rom name (in my opinion to be correct, even if this problem is very small). Sorry for the false alarm and to notify you in slowly - more like I'm doing my little girl to play, since I'm on vacation .

And btw, that's a COMMA, not an APOSTROPHE!

Well... notepad or IE were not the correct tools to use to find in a 54MB XML file a single apostrophe out of 1080, so I had to come home from office and use some decent tools... :P
set: m4dbl9 romname: d9's 6.bin
It is the only rom with an apostrophe in (and the problem actually WAS the apostrophe as it broke the php insert mysql query I use to populate the database, commas don't... Easy fix anyway, a simple mysql_real_escape_string(), before anybody add comments....... :P

Right. Ask no-intro "Loco Roco (Europe) (En,Fr,De,Es,It,Nl,Pt,Sv,No,Da,Fi,Ru) (v1.01).iso" or redump.org "Sonic Heroes (USA) (En,Ja,Fr,De,Es,It).iso".

well not really. we're talking about a comma before the extension. a comma is valid in a file name but its not valid as an extension separator. If you take any file and change the dot to a comma the file name then has no extension. so filename.bin becomes filename, bin. <- no extension

... well actually it is that I am a poor programmer (my job and studies are NO WAY related to computers & co) and did not expect rom names with apostrophes when I tuned the parser to load the XML into the db. I had just pointed out the issue in case some other poor programmer like me could have the same problem

Speaking of Windows, one of the "quiz" games in MAME (the name eludes me at the moment) has a ROM name that ends with a period, which isn't legal in Windows.
If you unzip the set, Windows removes the period from the end of the ROM name.

it was caused by 1 billion dumb people that bought Windows. If everyone had just said no to windows and stuck with DOS (or some other alternative) we wouldn't have a billion dumb computer users who only know how to click an icon and we wouldn't have those types of filenames being valid ;-)

It's valid to have a filename that starts or ends with the dot, but Windows Explorer and other utilities don't cope well with it. You can manipulate them easily with Cygwin, though.

So... the protection has been cracked?

Greyhound Electronics Trivia (Version 1.03a) (alt 3) The set name is "gt103a3" The ROM name is "history-geog."
Hopefully, this set will some day get the "ROM location" treatment and this will become a moot point.

It wasn't the protection that was missing. Until now we had a dump of the CPU key, but not the actual ROMs.

My dad had a hard time adjusting to filenames being case-sensitive, and to needing "./" to run executables in the directory you're in.

no shit Sherlock! It was put there as a learning exercise to help others. Thankfully nott all Linux users are arseholes like you so most people appreciate it. Linux is far from perfect I know but this is going way O/T so I'll end by simply telling you to go fuck yourself sideways. If you have an issue just PM me and I'll be happy to tell you to fuck yourself sideways personally.

You can add "." to your shell's rc file / $PATH. Dunno why it's not the default setting.

The game has been promoted to working. What do you think?

Did you delete the b41co2.dif file from the diff folder? Delete any other .dif files while you are there.

Oh yeah.. Thanks. I pressed F5 and it didnt show up on the list. @_@
EDIT: I just found out that I got bad bios file as well. Everything is good now. Thank you. I appreciate that.

It's not default because it's stupid, especially if it's first in the path. That way, if you end up in a directory with a malicious binary called, say "rm", it will be used over the one you wanted.

Thanks for that.
Maybe I'm crazy but I've kept multithreading off only because I was annoyed with those warnings filling up the logs.
I'm off to play Mr. Driller in interlaced mode.

Did you realize it's been almost 15 months since he has posted on this board?
I seriously doubt especially considering how recent events have unfolded that he will read your all caps stupidity.
