#260770 - 07/26/11 05:09 AM

Any idea on why when i upgraded my exotica to ver 2.4 using the roms in MAME my unit reports u10 as bad, However the game seems to play fine. I have burned 2 even redumped the burned one and put it back in mame and it is green on the cpu test there. My machine it reports as red during initial cpu check and checking in game. ideas?

Did you use the exact chip type replaced or just a compatible one? Did it show a message about restoring system defaults when you first put them in?

Did you burn ROM's for U10 and U11? Looking at the source code, the CPU code is spread across both chips.

Yes I replaced both u10 and u11, u11 is green taht is why I didn't mention it. U10 is red, yes I did get the message about the upgrade and had to recalibrate the controls. The game reports ver 2.4 and all seems to work fine, but the cpu check comes up as bad.

Same ST m27c160 -100 chip that was used from the factory.

if it works in MAME it should work on real h/w. Maybe re-read/re-verify your ROM has the same data. When reading use CRC32 to check it. Most EPROM programmers just give a byte checksum which is not good enough if the ROM isn't reading 100% right every time. If your software has the option make it give you the CRC32 after reading it. I've had plenty of suspect ROMs read the same byte checksum on multiple reads but the CRC32 was different each time. Otherwise if it works just accept it as-is and be happy you got a free upgrade. If you had bought it from Midway it would have cost several hundred dollars
