Finally can play Propcycle @ 100%

Got myself a Core i5-2500k (3.3ghz) on an ASRock P67 Extreme4. I can now play Propcycle @ 100% on MAME 0.143 64-bit.
With two clicks in the EFI/BIOS, I'm at 4.4ghz. It's amazing how fantastically smooth the game is for the era/hardware it was developed on.
Many thanks to the devs that have worked on it. I'm mainly posting just in case anyone was wondering what type of machine can play it at full speed.

Congratulations on the new hardware upgrade. About 1 year ago I spent some $$$ on a build I really enjoyed putting together.

Interesting game. It reminds me of pilotwings

I didn't try it non-over clocked

Just curious if this setup will run the Blitz games at full speed too not overclocking.
Thanks, Jason

Yes...Blitz runs at full speed. As a side note, I also have hlsl turned on with a ATI Radeon HD 5670.

Just a reminder: the CPU does not have anything to do with HLSL performance. That's purely the video card.

I concur with Trebor. The game runs at 100% consistently for me.
Holding the insert key (unlocked frames/max frame skip) shows it running at 200-250%, so I wouldn't expect too many, if any, hiccups.
However, N64 is still like 25% in MESS

I know I saw your post before on that fact in another thread. That's why I mentioned the graphics card specifics...It's one of the less expensive (And relatively less powerful) than most of the latest offerings. You can pick one up from NewEgg for $60-$70.

I have a 3.3GHz C2D and I get about 50% in Prop Cycle. The clocks are the same so its a good example of just how much more power the i-series has.

the hardware is extremely powerful even by today's standards. It's a bit like comparing the early Macs and Amigas. Same feeble CPU but the Amiga wiped the floor with everything because of hardware optimization and custom chips. Namco is/was the king of custom chips back then.

You must have something screwed up in your settings or you have the 32-bit version. My CD2 is around there, 3.4 and never goes that slow. Averages 90% in game, a lot of time at 100.

I wish I owned (or had room to own) the original machine.
I never had the pleasure of seeing it in person, but it looks like it would be fantastic fun. I'm sure the mechanical pieces would need maintenance and that part scares me too.
Maybe someday.

We had an orginal machine up until a few years ago in our local arcade. I loved it, pedaling like mad to make it to the last balloons before the time ran out!

Funny, my C2D E8400 at 3 Ghz (stock speed) runs Propcycle at 80-90%, I get 100% if I overclock it.

You playing at 64-bit? He wasn't, thus getting half the speed.

Right, my E8400 E0 @3.78GHz runs mostly 90% in compute-heavy spaces, and up to 120% in the tunnels. Difference might depend on board and mem.

There's usually at least one and sometimes as many as 3 at California Extreme. It's a total blast.

In general you can make up the difference on Prop Cycle for marginal cases by enabling auto frameskip.

It's funny reading through all this, because when I first got into MAME, I was upset that my 300 MHz computer couldn't play MK2 and wished I had the state of the art 600 MHz Pentium chip out there so I could play it. Christ, my insulin pump now is more powerful than my computer from back then. Amazing progress guys. Amazing.

Machines that run Prop Cycle well aren't that expensive if you build your own. Could probably do it well under $500 depending on what parts you already have.
