EasyMame Frontend missing Brave Firefighters
#258427 - 06/26/11 09:37 PM

The recent post of new cabinet snaps included Brave Firefighters.

For some reason EasyMame does not see it as an available game.

Running mame raw, or EmuLoader does bring up the title.

I'm just wondering what is different about Brave Firefighters that would exclude it from EasyMame and what other titles might also be missing from the list.

Of course, current version of Mame, updated easymame.ini file, initialized roms, Windows XP and 7, and the roms are available, though no CHD. EasyMame does see recently included titles like warp speed.

Haven't used it before but I just downloaded it and read the documents set up rompath(s) and pointed to 0.142u6 executable. It's not detecting several hundred romsets when I know they are correct. I don't think it's your problem, but the program needs updating. IMHO, there should ALWAYS be a way to list all games available to a certain MAME you choose, despite romset status.

It might have worked well at one time, but this seems to be showing from not being updated in the last 3 years.

Thanks for having a look.
Hit F7 or view/show all games.
EasyMame has issues with reading the updated CHD format.

(Recall when the CHD format changed and we had to run chdman to bring them all up to date.)

If you are still seeing missing roms after hitting F7, list a couple for me so I can compare with my settings.

Unfortunately the programmer has dropped off the map.
We use to have email chat but I haven't heard from him in ages.

EmuLoader looks like the best choice to transition to.
Only thing its missing is support for zipped up snaps of cabs, games, pcbs, etc.

CHD did change again recently ? didn't see notes about it.
all EL does on CHD files is read the header to get the MD5 checksum. no file checksum routine is performed.

EL used to support zipped images, but it was a nightmare to unzip to memory and load the image (and slow as hell). EL had to keep the .zip file locked/opened all the time too.

that was a problem because if you wanted to update your snap.zip, file was locked until you exit the frontend.

EasyMame also locks all picture zip files.
You must exit easymame before updating the zip files.
Having the pictures extracted would fix that issue.
I don't believe Easymame is a memory hog when dealing with zipped image collections.
Pictures come up instantly.

EL used to extract files directly into RAM, but the zip library, ZipForge, is too slow when it comes to search files in a very large file index... and since MAME has at least five thousand unique games, it would be slow.
remember, EL is coded in Borland Delphi and EasyMAME is coded in C++, which is lightning fast compared to Borland Delphi.
