Hi
Can anyone remember an arcade video game from the 80's that contained real video footage. I seem to recall it being a space fighter flying along shooting enemy craft and each hit was followed by an actual explosion. This seemed revolutionary at the time, though I recall the gameplay being shit even then and it was expensive.

Wow that looks terrible. "Hang on a bit while we figure out if you hit anything."

It might be Astro Belt, but in my memory it looked a little different, I seem to recall flying along a canyon like area (again real), but then the memory plays tricks after this many years.

Just had a look through that link and think it may have been Atari's Firefox

I think it's either Astron Belt or Galaxy Ranger.
You can look up the games on youtube and watch some of the game play. That should help him remember which one it is

I think they both have canyon scenes. (They shared a lot of footage, I think.) I know Astron Belt does, because I just played it the other day.
But (as I haven't played it, I don't know whether) they might've included in Firefox the scene in the movie where Gant decides to push the throttle some, and he's above some mountains, and then dips into the ranges.

Consider it high comedy....sincere tragedy....whatever...don't take it personally.
