Awesome Thunderstorms
#257747 - 06/18/11 08:48 AM

Had some awesome lightning storms take place well, last night now. I was driving down to my buddy's place down towards the cost, and in the distance I could see the flashes of light. As I got closer, I started seeing the actual bolts streaking across the sky and in some cases heading down towards the ground. (for those, the thunder was audible even inside my car). Got down to my buddy's place and we just sat on the front porch watching the lightning streak across the sky in shades of red, blue, and white. Kind of like an American Storm. The sun was just setting, so when the lightning hit, the sky was a strange shade of red still. It was just really cool and I wished it could go on forever. Eventually though, it subsided and I had to drive home.

On the way home, however, I came into the path of another storm that moved through. I had to drive pretty slow because the rain was coming down so hard it was difficult to see. I could still see the lightning bolts, however. Generally, when I see a storm here, I just see the flashes and not the actual bolts themselves. So this was neat to witness. At one point, I was driving along and through my windshield saw a bolt up above that seemed to reach around and touch itself, forming a circle in the sky above me, along with another vertical bolt off to the right. There was an instantaneous, and VERY loud, clap of thunder and my radio went silent, the streetlights flickered, and the oddest thing was the instruments in my car starting flickering, cycling, and freaking out. I noticed that the lights flickering was happening to the headlights and breaklights of the cars all around me. Makes me wonder if there was some type of EMP generated by that very close lightning blot that caused some electrical interference that hit the area. After a little while, everything went back to normal and the car was acting just fine. But still pretty odd.

Yes you were very close to that lightning strike and there was either static electricity or some kind of magnetic field when it struck. I'm too lazy to look it up and see which one. '

I had a similar experience once. I had just got my young girls to bed and was on the computer. It was dead silent in the house with the exception of the distant thunder, when all of the sudden I felt some kind of charge in the air (I'm inside remember), a bright flash and BOOM! That lightning had to of struck damned close! Right after it hit, several of the girls toys started talking, playing music, etc. It was like something from a movie except the toys did not come after me and stopped in a few seconds. I asked one of the electrical engineers at work about it the next day and he said the lightning caused the ICs in the toys to reset causing them to activate (or something like that). It was caused by the static or magnetic field (cannot remember which though).

Isn't that a bit like what Tesla did? (Just guessing, never really studied his work in depth or anything). You know, wireless/free energy without cables/wires to power stuff...?

Yeah, it was really weird. Was at a party this afternoon and talked about it with some other buddies who were out and about around that time and they said they heard a very loud clap of thunder right around the time I had the weird stuff going on. The storm was beautiful to watch, but man it was scary.
