Why does the screen blank when paused, now?
#256017 - 05/30/11 04:54 AM

Options boxes will display, but the game image is blank. ??

Also, for those who might pause and fiddle with stuff, it might completely crash on you, and no sta file-y saved.

Looks fine here. Be sure that "pause_brightness" is not set to 0. By default, it's set at 0.65 (0=black, 1.0=no change).

It's doing it to me as well, on a fresh install (INIs cleared) of MAMEUI64 with the HLSL effects enabled.

Check your ini files in the ini folder. MAMEUI somehow set pause brightness to 0 instead of .65.

Ah, I happened to think of pause brightness since posting. Apparently UI is fucked up in this regard. It seems to be a lack of communication between ini and interface on this and other things, such as prescale and some HLSL parameters, not to mention the mame.ini settings not being passed onto/governing the game inis.

Further, moving the default options slider in UI effects no change in visible value, nor in mame.ini, nor does it affect any games. You have to do it per game.

Robbbert,

Thanks for the work you have done! If I use the MESS winui src, will these sliders work in MAMEUI? I'll check it out from SVN and give it a try.

EDIT: After compiling r11702, I'm not seeing HLSL in MAMEUI. Do I need to enable it somehow?

Ahh, simple. Hey, Red, maybe you want to take over for John?...although, I'm thinking maybe the MAME Plus GUI should be co-opted.

Sure go ahead and enable them in MameUI if you're inclinded, I'll throw it out there. Remember I just compile and release. Did you enable HLSL options for all games in Default Options or similar? Thanks -

My feet don't fill those shoes. John does a great job. You are certainly free to use the MAME Plus GUI with MAME or MAMEUI, not just Plus.

I'm really happy Robbbert (and a few others) have taken an interest in updating the UI portion of MAMEUI. His work has always been top notch in my book.

Thanks Robbbert. I'd be glad to test drive it!

Robbbert,

This works great. A few observations..

- If you change a setting in game, it is not saved. I would image this will come from the core.

- The Reset and Restore Default Settings are not yet active. I think I read that on the SVN notes for r11668.

- I can't make up my mind if it would be better to have the HLSL tab as a default for all games. You kind of do that in MAME anyway when you put the settings in mame.ini.

It would have been cool if each game had it's monitor brand / model specified and you could choose settings that simulate it. That would be a helluva project there!

Anyway thank again!

Optimally you'd want HLSL available as a choice for all games, driver, and individual games just like any of the other *.ini settable options.

HLSL for all games in default options at minimum would be the appropriate choice. Bear in mind too that MG is continuing to tweak the names and deprecating some of the features, like oversample.. so it may take some time to settle.

Yeah, I'm looking in that direction. Even without HLSL capacity via the ui. However, I'm having trouble with patching MAME using Headkaze's compiler utility, and that may be about as messy as I'm going to get my hands.

Why do you need "Headkaze's compiler utility"? It is very simple to setup the compiler and compile MAME. All of the hard work is done for you.
