Mame .139 to .142 worth it?
#254118 - 05/09/11 07:33 PM

I'm currently running .139 with a full romset and have recently found a .142 romset, are the changes between the two versions worth the 27 gb download? Mind you I'm pretty happy with .139 aside from having to run vector games in directdraw, which from what I understand is still an issue, and periodic slowdowns with metal slug games, but again I have read that the original machines did that too. Any input is appreciated. Thank you.

27GB? Why on earth would you download the whole romset over again if you are starting from 0.139? Get yourself a rom manager and do some research.

Well I have clrmamepro, would I just scan my
Current Rom directory against the .142 exe? I'm relatively new to all this including clrmamepro.

Yeah but you might as well scan against a .142u3 binary.

Ok I'll just do that. I only ran clrmamepro once so I don't know it all that well, will it just tell me what I need to download?

Well if you need help with ClrMame you should use their board. You can download it here:

http://mamedev.emulab.it/clrmamepro/

For the binary, if you want the plain version look in the News board thread for the 1432u3 release, a regular (32 bit) version is posted and I posted a 64 bit version if your OS is 64 bit. Or you can run it on MAMEUI:

Well I tried mameui and their latest version at the time took forever to load up and it used a ton of memory which is why I'm using .139. If I go to .142 I'll use emu loader.

well after running clrmame against the latest mameui im missing about 1700 sets, which to me is much more of a pain to hunt down and download than just grabbing a 142 romset, although i have seen update packs, but is there one from 139 to 142? or would i have to download each incremental one until i get to 142?

Sounds like incremental, but we don't really do the update packs around here.

I always re-download all sets that have missing ROMs/CHDs completely.

I don't bother on downloading only the missing ROMs to add them into the .zip package (manually or with ClrMAME). it's too much of a hassle.

for me, it's easier to download the full .zip of the game again.
