A sort of retro-MAME DK scenario question
#250050 - 03/27/11 09:29 AM

I'm kind of fond of the look of DK (in this case, displayed horizontally) on my 27" CRT at 800x600, DD+switchres(800x600)+scanlines+prescale2.

However, it seems my 2.8ghz P4+XP32 is meager for this task, as I'm getting jumpy performance, averaging around 80%.

I disabled anything I thought might have some pull, and even reduced the sound to 22050 (which is ugly sounding), to no avail.

Is DK just that cumbersome with DD?

PS: the displayed image is about twin to native display on this monitor, but less effort, hence my interest in it.

Wasn't that the site that was shut down for distributing roms?

Dude, is that some out-of-the-park humour?

In any case, I found out the culprit. I mean, sort of yes my system is underpowered....but when I stopped this one application (a game Front End I sometimes have running for general sonic ambience), DK ran nice. Triple Buffer ensured it was ultra infinite smooth (holy shit! - a time TB didn't drag it down), in particular when Kong falls on the rivet level. Very nice.

There used to be a site called mame.dk. It was like maws in that it (also) had some info on roms.

Recognition of (at the very least) punctuation and letter case is important.

Sorry Captain No Fun, I had the same identical reaction Tom did. "MAME.DK? But that's been down for years!"

Alas, I have only heard of the place. Even still, I likely would've worded it something like: wow, I first saw MAME.DK in that.

It really shouldn't be called "MAME Donkey Kong". Because that's like saying it's a port to MAME.

There are no MAME versions of any game.

Damn, I always wanted to run 64-bit MAME on original Donkey Kong hardware... or is this only possible with Scramble hardware?

I understand your sentiment. However:

- I used a simple linguistic tagging that is common usage

- actually, every time the DK driver changes, it's a different version of DK. In function, hopefully more similar to the original hardware.

Yep, and CLRMame had a linkage set up right to the page.
