Big Ball Bowling (Bowler) from United
#249619 - 03/23/11 04:56 AM

Anyone who can find some pics of this machine...?

I could find some old flyer for many united's bowling machines, but not that particular one.
Any help would be appreciated (in order to do its icon)

Your question doesn't make sense to me? Is there really a game called "Big Ball Bowling" from United? Because "Big Ball Bowling" is a category of games.

It's kinda like asking "Does anyone have a picture of a game called 'Pinball Game'? It's made by Williams..."

[EDIT] Well, okay, that's kind of a stupid question I guess from me. I'll see what I can come up with.

Actually, none of the available information makes sense.

a. Websites that host Visual PinMAME tables say "bbbowlin" is a 1984 game.
b. MAME source says 1988 game.
c. History.DAT says 1979 game , mfg. "Unknown", which History.DAT says they got the info from inside the ROMs (really?).
d. And the original PinMAME source says: "Big Ball Bowling (Bowler)",19??,"United(?)"

So it appears no one really knows what this ROM set is or remembers where it came from.

Either way, true "big ball" bowlers dated mostly from the 1960's-mid 70's.

I am thinking that PinMAME devs got the ROM dump, didn't know what it was, called it a "Big Ball Bowler" from United because that is the category, and the name stuck. But United games tend to have true names, like "Avalon" and "Frolics" and stuff:
http://www.pinrepair.com/bowl/index.htm

And of course, PinMAMEDEV might have done that because the same ROM was used on multiple cabinets.

Anyhow, to proceed we need to know more about the ROM set from PinMAMEDEV, IMHO. (keeping in mind this isn't exactly my area of expertise...)

Honestly, for some of this pinball stuff, it's REAL early days, I wouldn't worry about it too much

Okay, I think I got our candidate.

I think it's this:

Which would make it not United.

I'll do some follow-up and let you guys know.

Another obscure item that is unable to evade you. ;-)

I found an obscure Game-A-Tron cab....but I believe it might be more of a modified Game Plan cab that was set up to handle the Game-A-Tron game.

As I mentioned to someone else earlier, there are a couple unknown Game-A-Tron gambling games currently emulated. They haven't been identified yet imo. No idea if either is the same as what is being auctioned.

And the Game-A-Tron gambling game being auctioned: http://cgi.ebay.com/GAT-Game-Tron-Video-...=item1c1a422b19

Game-A-Tron Barrel of Fun. No flyer online anywhere that I am aware of. I don't know what the actual game looks like, but here this is for another mystery needing to be solved at a later time.

Another note: Given every other game in that driver, bbbowlin may be a partial dump. But I don't know for sure.

As said, Mickey, the guy whos youtube account link I posted, is like a human encyclopedia on Electromechanical games. Most especially ball bowlers.

He may also know about the digitals as well, merely because I do not think there were too many digital ball bowlers. Puck bowlers seemed to take their place sadly.

Collectors like Mickey are invaluable to getting good information where none is easily found.

Post to the arcade/pinball/collector newsgroups, as well as the "KLOV" forums may also yield results.
