Atari Basketball inner bezel! Now on eBay
#248598 - 03/11/11 04:25 PM

OK gang, this is a good one. The inner bezel for Atari Basketball is on eBay right now. this is definitely on my most wanted list. It's a great piece of late '70s Atari art.

Current price is $1 with $15 shipping but there is already a bidder.

I'm in for at least $5. Anyone else? If you are the current bidder, please let us know so we don't bid over you. Once I have a commitment for at least $20, I can place a bid.

Mr. Do, this is still needed, right?

No dude, keep the bid. Do you have a machine you're restoring?

Can you scan it for us though?

Yikes! $45 is pretty steep. I have photos of this inner bezel and the outer bezel that a collector sent me. Unfortunately, they were all taken at different angles and zooms. I can probably do something with the outer bezel, but the inner bezel would be much harder.

Anyone out there with an Atari football bezel they could scan? Or have $45 they would be willing to donate? Or have a machine and need a bezel? Let us know!

Atari Basketball and Football are available to me.

However, I do not know for sure what the shroud looks like inside Basketball.
It should be in good shape, but I won't know for another month.

The Football shroud looks good and is on my list of things to grab. It's a tougher one to get at so it wasn't high on list of things to get.

I don't recall the shroud looking like the one photographed in this forum, so maybe we do need this one as well.

i grabbed the one so far, shipping is 30 bucks so if we get the football one too it makes the combined shipping an ok deal.
i'm sure i can use them to trade etc.
off topic, i'm looking to purchase a sky shark bezel for one of my machines, has it been scanned?

we got both atari basketball and football. someone did bid up the football bezel to 5.76
and shipping is 20, so not bad for both pieces.
my scanner can handle non plastic so these are not a problem to scan.
skyshark ends in a few days, i'll do my best to grab it.

One could be 2 player and one could be 4 player.

4 player:

2 Player:

I'm not an expert, but the shroud/inner bezel looks the same to me. The outer glass bezels are definitely different. The location of the instructions vary.

4p - the "crowd" is on the short side of the monitor

2p - the "crowd is on the long side of the monitor

so yeah, they're different

Are you sure? Those images both look to me like the crowd is along the yard lines, the longer horizontal distance of the monitor.

Here's the 2 auction images also. These certainly look the same to me.:

Here's the one that myclone bought:

Huh, yeah, I was totally convinced Mr. Do was correct after a quick glance at the original images, but now that you mention it, they're both oriented the same.

The lines at two ends of the bezel are supposed to be an extension of the field, and the crowd is on either side of the field. If you look at the monitor in the images, they both display the yard markers perpendicular to the shroud lines.

I think the first image is horizontally squashed or something, 'cuz the aspect ratio of that monitor looks backwards. Good thing the game is powered on in both cases.

Came here to say that and retract my earlier statement, after checking other pics of real cabs.

What about the color differences? One has a blue line near the "playing field" and the other has a green line. I am no expert, but there is no way fading could cause this. The green color is to vibrant.

Huh! Well, there you go.

Looks like the general design is the same, but there is that one different. It shows up on both the auction pictures and the pictures of the cabinets I posted. Looks like the 4 player had the blue line and the 2 player had the green. The one myclone bought is the green line 2-player, which I would guess would be the more common of the 2.

Both the flier for the 4-player version and the manual for the 2-player version list a 23 inch monitor, so the dimensions are the same.

Can't remember if this was mentioned, but the 4-player version has more/different play options too. 5 offense and 5 defense, vs. 4 of each for the 2-player version.

Good eye!
