AdvanceCD
#246704 - 02/16/11 07:22 AM

I'd very much like to try out AdvanceCD:

http://advancemame.sourceforge.net/cd-readme.html

However it's pretty old and doesn't run on any computer I have access to. I understand that it is hit-or-miss with recent hardware.

Can anyone suggest a system that would be available these days that AdvanceCD would run on?

Older systems maybe?

You might try a more modern equivalent like Groovy Arcade CD, which gives you the Advance features (real native modes on an arcade monitor/ArcadeVGA) with current MAME on modern hardware. Some of his claims are wrong (his patch to do vsync with multithreading actually just disables multithreading) but the results are good by all accounts.

Thanks! It sounds good. Can you suggest a LiveUSB creator that would work with Groovy? I tried LiLi but it didn't work.

I don't quite understand - it's an ISO file, you just burn it on a CD-R and boot

I think he wants it to be a live environment off USB stick so he can update it without reburning, have savestates, etc.

I don't know why hard media is still being used in these cases..........

Consider it high comedy....sincere tragedy....whatever...don't take it personally.

Because, as we've just demonstrated, it's tons easier. If you don't have a live CD maker program that's specifically programmed for your image, you're often out of luck.
