Hi all,
Just starting to get into MAME and am thinking about building my first project.
I am wondering what is the most common MAME version people use or if they even use the original MAME software. Also, what frontend do you guys generally use? Do you pick it for the looks, ease of use or what other factors?
Any and all input is much appreciated. Thanks!

Always go for the latest version. IMO the original MAME program is the best. Simple, easy to use, doesn't bog you down with thousands of options.
Alternativly there's MAMEUI with a proper UI

Thanks very much for the quick reply.
Any suggestions on what is a common frontend to use in conjunction with the MAME software? I don't need anything too fancy at all, just wondering what people like to use around here and simplicity is always a good thing

As I said, AMMEUI seems popular to me. There's also MamePlusPlus which I have no knowledge of, or if it's sitll updated, and then you have some front ends designed for MAME Cabs, Google really helps with find all the derrivitives.

http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Front-Ends A good listing of front-ends there to choose from.
