Having a media PC hooked up in the living room now, these were deemed an absolute necessity. Can't wait till they get here.

I have always been an arcade gamer at heart, and have always had big hands ( no comments, please )

Every system I ever owned, going back to the 2600, I had to have the "big joystick."

Atari was the Wico
Nintendo was The Advantage
Sega Master was able to use the WICO
Genesis was the Arcade Power Stick
Turbografix was the Turbostick Controller
SNES was the Super Advantage
Playstation was the ASCII Arcade Stick

Nintendo 64... this was the first time that I stuck with the controller that came bundled with the system, because of the analog control. It's also one of my main PC controllers today (I have my original one from my original release-day system).

Sorry to say I have no fond memories for the old controllers =(

RELAX and just have fun. Remember, it's all about the games.

I want one of the Atari 2600 USB controllers, but I think the company that makes them only does so in small runs or something so they're pretty pricey.

I'm in between. I liked most of them other than the Playstation where the center of the d-pad is hidden and it's 4 buttons (just plain stupid) or the Dreamcast (just plain bad) but for the others, even though I liked them, I like my Saitek just as well, and for fighters on any system, the Saitek is the best. I'd rather play most stuff on arcade style controls but only if they are strongly mounted like in a cab or the controller is screwed into something. If I use a joystick I want to be able to be harsh with it and it not budge, most of the home system arcade stylers couldn't do that. If it's going to flop around I'll take a gamepad over it.

I have to say I was disappointed when I got my old NES working last year. My memory had been that the NES controllers were the superior gamepad controllers. The reality is that my mitts are a lot bigger than they were when I was 11. They're still usable, but they definitely feel cramped and the hard edges dig into your palms after a while. They're cool for retro authenticity, but for playing comfort, I think the contoured Playstation-style controllers have yet to be beat.

I was going to pickup an advantage, but the price tag on that one turned me off.

(max, and dogbone would be nice to complete the collection...but those were even worse.)

You should have gotten one of these adapters from amazon.com...

$7.00 - http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000PDOTXG/?tag=3feetunder-20

...and picked up some real NES controllers off of Ebay.

I've used those in the past for nes and ps2 controllers, ALWAYS lose them.

With my 2 year old in the "daddy's toys are my toys too" phase, one piece gear is especially king at the moment.

Actually, it's not MY Wii. It belongs to my housemates. The Wii is pretty gay. I don't think I could spend money on one either. I only use it to play emulated games from the store. It's also not bad as a cheapo way to get access to Netflix streaming as long as you don't need the HD output, which the Wii can't do, unlike the PS3 and XBox360.

One non-gay thing about the Wii is that it's backwards compatible with games for the Gamecube (which I do own) however you have to use Gamecube controllers, which is cool with me because the Wiimotes suck balls.

I'd still hack it up for an arcade styled controller.

actually, I feel the right sensation only with PS1/PS2 dual shock (which I keep using with a USB adapter, with both MAME and MESS).

I never liked too much NES, Genesis or n64 controllers... they all became uncomfortable in long game sessions. and I have used the SNES one as well, when I bought a used SNES 5 years ago, but I still prefer the dual shock.

The Wii maybe isn't the best console for power, but they are some things that Wii's are great at. Sure people may not like the Wii remote or the motion control games, but they're pretty good games for it. I'd say that Metroid is Halo for Nintendo IMO.

If you're a small percent, then I must be in an even smaller percent.

I've always liked the Saturn (v.2) 6 button controller. Although I wish the start button was a solid (not whole piece of rubber) button, and the top shoulder buttons not those fragile micro-switches. Other than that - (for me) the D-Pad was perfect, as well as the 6 on-top buttons.

In fact... always playing with my right hand over the buttons inspired me draw up and make a proto-type design for a new controller. This was back in the late 90's, and I haven't seen anything like it ever produced.

I've even (lately) had an idea for a new D-Pad that I haven't ever seen produced (yet). I still have yet to make a mock-up of that, but I'm working on it.

I must find one for Mega Drive 6-button pads. The whole MEss/MAME controller issue is just pushing me to the brink of destruction..

And while I'm at I should find those Sega->Jamma converters aswell

few reasons to get one new [Re: italie]
#244509 - 01/25/11 05:40 AM

VC games we all love retro here, right?
Gamecube games

NSMBW, Couple of Metroids, Zelda, DKC Returns, couple of Japanese games (released in English) that I couldn't spell off the top of my head, oohh... and punch out! Best thing about that one is that if you don't like using the motion controls, you can turn the Wiimote sideways and play it like the original NES version (pretty much).

Easily hacked

most people I know love it, once I convinced them to sit down and play a few games on it.
