Andrew, can we close the book on DSP16A?

While it's true that particular book has been opened, it's pretty far from being closed.
In addition to the usual bit-typing and decoding, a new CPU core will need to be written before a satisfactory closing...

Does the current (0.141) BSMT2000 emulation have any known bugs? I can only compare to my Battletoads PCB and MAME sounds already perfect... i guess other games might use unemulated functions of course.

I'm not an expert, but this is R. Belmont's response to a question about the BSMT2000 and another sound chip on the MAMEworld boards awhile back:
"Both of these chips run internal programs that do the actual sound mixing, so emulating them will give the correct original PCB sound... BSMT2000 has a number of corner cases that may not be right." - R. Belmont

Even more importantly, the ADPCM decoding has never been right on the BSMT2000. Now it will be perfect. I don't think any of the arcade games used it, but the pinball games certainly did.

Yup, the pinballs always sounded not-quite-right in M1 and PinMAME. This will help a lot (well, maybe not PinMAME since they're stuck on 0.84 or whatever).
