So software lists are finally included? Can't believe my eyes.

Edit: Er, there were some .hsi files before but no lists came up for me. I guess I need to check it out more..

software lists work since 0.138... I'm not sure they are included in the package though... you might need to download them from the wiki.

There are now xlm files in there. And I looked for software lists with the Find function on the wiki page and it found nothing. Anyway I need to look more into it before talking. :-)

I hope ClrMame will work now with a single link like with MAME.

I was in hurry, sorry. here you can find the file (if any is missing)

http://git.redump.net/cgit.cgi/mess/tree/hash/

you have to open the link, select the 'plain' version and save the resulting file

>
> I hope ClrMame will work now with a single link like with MAME.

nope. Roman is not interested into adding this kind of option to clrmame. hence, the best you can do at the moment is to batch scan/rebuild the various xmls rather than one by one

you can find more details in the User Manual

http://mess.redump.net/mess:howto

(search for software lists )

I wonder if one day we can make a single scan for BIOS and software...

There won't be mass preservation of the lesser known hardware supported in MESS until there is a one-click style solution so it either needs support in ClrMame or it needs to be changed to be hard coded into the exe how MAME does it if that is something you guys are concerned about. Or maybe someone will make an audit program just for MESS.

not interested? Interesting...it's more a question of easily accessing the single software lists automatically or bringing mess to a level where it simply includes all lists...

Well...till then you can handle the single files easily in the profiler plus use of the batcher...

last time we talked, you stated you had no time to add more options. I'm ready to discuss any possible improvement to lists that could facilitate your work.

given the size of the lists, we would prefer to leave the list output separate from the main xml (-listsoftware vs -listxml), but if it is too hard to handle 2 separate options (to be called sequentially) in clrmame, we can discuss how to simplify your life...

anyway, you can import at once all the xmls in the batch run menu. it basically is a "2 click" procedure: one scan for the BIOSes and a batch run for the xml (and clrmame takes care of all the intermediate steps between one xml and the next, if you setup properly the options)

N64 seems broken in 0.141, anyway (at least on my Windows x64 compile). Although it was functioning (slowly) in previous releases.

which svn revision exactly? have you done a clean build? are you sure the exact same image was working before?

MacOSX 64bit build works better than ever here (latest svn rev)

Not an SVN build. Just a generic MESS 0.141 x64 build. Everything just black screens.

Not sure what svn revision 0.141 MESS used, but the current driver status in SVN is better now than in a long time. A lot of stuff has happened since MAME release 0.141.. a lot!

All kidding aside, I have put playing Ocarina of Time on hold until there is a reasonably accurate emulator (Yes, I've never actually played through it ). I don't expect MESS to solve that for me right now, but seeing "proper" N64 emulation makes me look like

Actually I think it's still a quick scan at the moment and no real need to multiple run mess for each and any system to get the software list.

Simply drop all xml files into the profiler and let the Batcher does the rest for you...

you don't need multiple runs: with "mess -listsoftware" you get an xml with *all* software lists at once [1], and without repetitions (e.g. genesis and megadrive and their clones share the same list, but this list appears only once)

hypothetical usage sample: each entry from the -listsoftware output could appear in a selectable menu generated by clrmame and users might select which lists they want to scan/rebuild and which not... and then the selected entries could be run in a batch process as if separate xmls.

the tricky part would be (imho) to match the lists in the -listsoftware output with the proper drivers, to offer advanced management options... but this is an 'advanced' option, so we can ignore it at this stage

[1] except the ones not hooked up to the emulator... those have to be fed manually because they are invisible to the exe...

Has anyone ahown any interest in looking at the RM Link 480Z? We had one at junior school - it would be mad to play Granny's Garden again after all these years!

It appears this is the only computer system, currently supported in MESS, made by that company.

The other computers made by the company are on the wanted list.

MESS is interested in all the existing systems, like MAME is in all the arcade games, but without a BIOS dump we cannot do anything

while at it, could you please check cdi.xml (http://git.redump.net/cgit.cgi/mess/plain/hash/cdi.xml) ?

we have modified lists so that chds are handled the same as MAME (and not anymore like roms). could you update clrmame to handle them as well?

Proper emulation looks something like this. (Someone else has a channel going showing N64 demoscene stuff that only runs on current-SVN MESS).

Too late. [extremely popular MAME torrent site] carries complete MESS software packs made from the lists ;-)

I can't find it, unfortunately, but the only long term solution is an easy audit. Or maybe MESS lists aren't updated often like MAME ones. I can't imagine they are, actually, but I wouldn't think MAME ones would be as much either unless I had seen all the whatsnews from past years. Anyway, I don't see the torrent, assuming you are talking about PB.

you can start looking for nointro sets for consoles: those would already give you a large percentage of the current MESS sets (except for NES, which uses split roms as MAME instead of iNES craps)

have you actually tried the batchrun menu of clrmame?

Oh! The Nacho64 demo. I just remembered i couldn't make it run properly on any emulator. Though it probably runs on everything else by now. Still, is nice to see it working in an emulator which doesn't need me tweaking plug-ins to make it work.

That;s interesting because it says Here "RM was unique in that it published the full source code for the BIOS." but the guy doesn't say where exactly, and may be mistaken, but interesting all the same...

My 3.2ghz Q6600 isn't fast enough to run at anywhere near full speed.

Maybe some SandyBridge (and the undying hope of optimizations) will make me more

btw, I have just fixed a few problems with -listsoftware output: not all the loading flags were properly added, a few sizes and offsets were wrong, etc.

if you now launch "mess -listsoftware", you actually obtain the same result as if you were copying and pasting in a single file the dtd + all the lists (except, of course, for comments in the original files which are not included in the output).
this should be of help if you really are going to try using its output in clrmame

Not that unique - the Apple II ROM source listings were published, and I think the original IBM 5150 PC's were as well.

use this build:

http://bobz38.free.fr/mess_autobuild/index.php

the n64 problem got fixed around the time of the release and it was not included by mistake. it will be fine in 0.142, but until then either you compile by yourself the code or you better use bobz' daily build

Also the AVI Writing seems to not cover the whole screen, since my recording is missing a thrid of it..

If you're referring to what I think you are, in MESSUI, select Options / Default System Options. Click on the Miscellaneous tab. Uncheck "Use New UI."
