overlay effects in higher resolutions for brighter picture?
#242584 - 01/04/11 04:00 AM

guys please help me out!

I've got meself a nice 22" nec trinitron with beautiful saturated colors, its a professional vga pc monitor capable of 1920*1440 resolution. i want to use this high resolution with present mame overlay effects but the tiles are too small. I understand tiles are designed for medium resolutions like 1280*1024. Of all overlay tiles available, IMHO I find twistys effect_shadowmask effect to look the best! BUT it DARKENS the picture! I assume this is how things work with overlays and that's that... BUT is it somehow possible to modify this particular overlay tile in order to get brighter picture while retaining the acceptable scanline effect quality? on higher monitor resolutions like 1920*1440? to put it simple: would twistys effect_shadowmask overlay tile made for 1920*1440 give brighter picture since it's in higher resolution? If so, how to do this?

does this make any sense? sorry to bother you but obviously I'm new at this.

many thanks in advance!

Have you read this thread and tried all those scan effects?

If none of those meet your needs, you may need to make your own, which is super simple.

Just open up the effects.png in any graphic editor... even paint will do it... and make changes as needed.

If you make a good one worth sharing, submit it at the linked post above.
