Can I make "GAUNTLET DARK LEGACY" into a MAME machine?

I would like to buy a sleek arcade machine locally using craigslist and I need some advice. I want something with a 25-27" arcade CRT and it needs to be ergonomic for comfortable adult play.
From a bit of looking around, it would seem like these games have a sleek look and are available for $500-$800 used:
Gauntlet Dark Legacy NFL Blitz The Simpsons
Basically I want to buy a machine and put a PC in it to play MAME.
So my 2 questions are: 1. Is there a favored arcade cabinet that most MAMErs use? 2. Will I run into video issues trying to connect a PC to any of the 3 dedicated arcade cabinets I listed above?
Thanks for the help! Tom

If you're handy with tools its cheaper to build your own. You can customize it to all your needs and you wont have to worry about it having 10-20 years worth of beatings to clean up after or repair. I've found the old arcades tend to also have a smell. Its not always unpleasant (or present at all) but if there is any chance this thing was in a bar, restaurant or bus/train station its probably going to reek puke, piss, grease, and/or cigarette smoke.

Depends on how you plan on hooking up the existing monitor. You can't just plug it in, you'll need some sort of adapter like the ArcadeVGA or some such. This is the place to ask: BYOAC
