Does it degrade the game a lot by not having a balance board? Do you use the thumb sticks for ducking and dodging if you don't have the board?

It's been too long so I can't remember how the controls worked exactly, but I played through the game without feeling the boardless controls were inadequate. It worked pretty well whatever the controls were.

Nah it plays fine by playing with the Wiimote sideways. I had no problems at all and it's still fun

How is the dodging done? Thumb on the d-pad?

With the d-pad sideways, it plays exactly like classic punch-out, no 'motion sense' needed.

But if you wanted to play it where you are actually "air-boxing", then you have to have the balance board?

Nope

Played it once and didn't have a board. Didn't know one could be used
