I always liked TDK MA or FUJI Metal tapes.
I could only afford one of TDK MA-R..

Or tapes full of C64 games, with a little sheet of paper to tell you what tape counter to start playing it at!
Maybe you've used 'SuperTurbo' to get the loading time down from 100 odd to 20 odd counts per game (not counting the 25 counts to load superturbo itself) for extra style points!

Hey, I used to have a small pile of mix tapes recorded on TDK SA and SA-X tapes. My family couldn't really afford or justify buying MA or MA-R tapes, but boy, I used to fantasize about that sexy MA-R shell sitting in an equally sexy Studer Revox B760. 
OTOH, I am glad I completely bypassed cassettes on C=64.

I remember buying ONE of those MA-R tapes. I still have it. It seems like the MA tapes hold up really well over time. I have some recorded over 20 years ago that still sound pretty good on my 3 head JVC deck. I always thought the sound deteriorated with time on the SA tapes. I have a couple of SA-X tapes. they lasted better than SA but not nearly as good as MA.
All of that being said, I have never bought a prerecorded tape. I always thought they sounded lousy. I used to make mix tapes and play them on my Alpine head unit. Sounded pretty damn good.
