Ninja Emaki (Nichibutsu) backgound music is incomplete
#223985 - 06/10/10 04:11 PM Attachment: Ninja Emaki.mp3 909 KB (25 downloads)

Hi,

Has anyone had any joy trying to correct the background music of Ninja Emaki by Nichibutsu? I have been trying to purchase this PCB for redump but cannot find it anymore.

The problem is that the music is missing all drums and percussion instruments (apparently the missing elements could be embedded descrete audio). It is a shame as the original complete music is a brilliant piece of work and really adds to the game. I have the original game music CD and have ripped a sample of the first stage music for reference purposes - MP3 is attached. This is not a 'remixed' version, it is the original PCB's music.

I have noticed that there are 2 bin files within the rom that are marked as bad dumps so this could be the problem; but the bad dump files (yncp-2d.bin and yncp-7f.bin) do not seem to be audio related.

I think I might just have to keep looking for the PCB but it is so rare - the really annoying thing is that a local arcade offered me this board many years ago but when I went back the next week with the money to collect it - the whole place had gone up in flames!

The supposedly bad files are proms so nothing to do with sound and they are most likely correct (shared with other games in the driver). I don't know if buying a board will help but you can get one here:

Edit: Or wait, maybe in red text means out of stock? Not sure.

Yeah, I don't think buying a board is going to help here. Looks like the hardware's all there, maybe just the DAC volume isn't right or something.

Thanks for your response to this. It is strange as Galivan (the game that shares the same hardware and sound chips does have complete sound). I checked the YM sound chip & DAC volumes in the setup menus but these are all ok I think.
I may hold fire on purchasing the PCB for a while.

This game has incomplete sound emulation... no sound effects when hits the enemies (a strong SE when hits the monsters and a weak SE when hits the soldiers, ninjas and ghost).

I think we're missing an MCU for the text layer/input test.

Yes, I can read the comments in the driver too ;-)

As far as audio, I saw a PCB picture and it looks like we've got everything that's actually there covered. The FM/DAC balance is definitely not optimal, but it's simply not playing the complex drums from the attached MP3, and there are no unmapped writes on the sound CPU. I'd like to hear samples from a real board.
